    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I really enjoyed it, it was a great experience. All the managers are really lovely as well as those you work with. There were a number of socials which were amazing. Also, apart from the more social things which were great, there was variety in the workload I was given.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I felt extremely valued by my colleagues, they had a little welcome gathering for me which was great and every week they brought treats into the office which I greatly enjoyed. Also, no matter what I asked they were always ready to answer which was amazing as it gave me more confidence to ask questions and reduced the amount of time I sat trying to figure out something I really needed help with.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • We had quite a few meetings with both our hub managers as well as the intern managers which helped in setting what direction we were going in. Some of them happened weekly and they ensured we had enough work to do and they also ensured that we were not overly swamped with work. They tried to find a balance for us and encouraged us to try other tasks we may not have done.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I had some busy days and some less busy days, initially I wasnt very busy but I had enough work provided then I went through an extremely busy spell then it calmed down again but I get consistent work regularly. When I don't have any, I ask around and someone's always willing to pass on any work they can.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • In terms of responsibility, we were allowed to plan a few events such as different socials, we were also put in charge of other more charitable tasks. This gave us responsibility outside of our usual work stuff which kept us busy when we had any dry spells. On the more business side of things, I got enough responsibility in terms of being in charge of completing your own tasks but we weren't pushed to take on anything massive.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Our first week was pretty much training which was both insightful and extremely helpful. It taught us the basics of the pensions industry which was helpful especially for people that had no previous experience in this field. We also got some 'fundamentals' which were helpful in terms of introducing us into some key maths aspects. I believe some of the skills especially soft skills like punctuality will be extremely helpful in future

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The one thing I loved about this internship was the atmosphere in my business area, it was extremely chilled and on most days, various degrees of happy which was amazing i can't speak for all parts of the office but I never felt suffocated or an urge to be quiet. I felt like I was free to express myself.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • It was organised very well with all important dates communicated to us once we started the internship. I do think at some points, some of us got really busy with work and couldn't keep on top of the extra curricular things that we were told we had to complete as well.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Personally, i think a week of training was a good amount as we couldn't do too much as this would infringe on the other jobs we could have been doing while being trained. So I would say enough. It was only a month long and I wouldn't have expected a massive amount of training anyway.

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Subsidised Canteen

    Company Parties/Events

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I think future employment prospects are very appealing, it seems like a really nice environment to work in which is all I really look for in future employment. I would rather I had amazing colleagues and a nice vibe over a stuffy company anywhere else. Willis Towers Watson has both of these.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There was a great social scene amongst the interns, they are great and I love them all! We went out for meals and to the pub and always had kind words to say to each other when needed. I couldn't have asked for a better group of people, cheers guys!

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I didn't live in this area and lived in a town not too far from here however my costs didn't have anything to do with living here so I wouldn't be able to answer this question. In terms of socialising, the pubs are a bit expensive but considering the part of the country it is in, this is not very surprising.

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • i haven't been out at night yet but I hear that there is a total of one club in the area which isn't very promising but there are transport links into london if that's a problem for anyone. It wasn't a problem for me as i didn't live in the area.

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Yes, there were a number of social events going on over the duration of the internship. We also got to plan a social ourselfwhich was nice. We also had the opportunity to make a newsletter as well as run a charity. All of these were great experiences and extremely fun.
