    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • My placement was very enjoyable and no day was the same. I experienced a great amount of variation and learnt things I never experienced making this placement a massive success and hugely beneficial. I really enjoyed every task I was presented with and I got the most enjoyment out of it towards the end.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • My colleagues where fantastically helpful in every way I needed from giving me tasks to complete to helping me with my end of placement presentation. They always where extremely thankful whenever I completed work for them especially when it was done early! I helped out in my areas of quality allowing me to meet lots of new exciting people.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My manager and supervisor surpassed my expectations and would help me with anything I asked. They always answered every question I had in detail and would keep me updated with daily meetings and asked me how it was going repeatedly. I found them both extremely kind and supportive with everything I needed.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • It started off slow as I adjusted to the role and the expectations a had placed upon myself. Once I settled the work load picked up and kept me busy and happy making the day fly past! The first few weeks though were mostly shadowing which is necessary but not as great compared to getting stuck in!

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • This again varied greatly. I wish I could've had more but I wasn't there long enough to be given than much responsibility. However, as the weeks progressed I ended up leading a team all by myself and ended up training people on a new software. It felt really good to be contributing in such a lasting way.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The skills I learnt relating to the Industry will aid me for much of my career and I believe will help me achieve a high grade in my final two years at university. The skills I learnt also relate to out of work and have changed my mindset making me more proactive and efficient in day to day activities.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Being in such a large office was very difficult at first and a little daunting however as I settled in the team was more welcoming and relaxed around me making every day better than the last. The atmosphere tended to be rather quiet and focused and promoted a successful work ethic.

    3/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Overall it was well set up however the 10 week placement took place over shutdown which is a two week period where almost everyone is off. This lead to a lot of varied answers in the placements roles while managers and supervisors were away. This was the only aspect of the organization which I felt was floored.

    3/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I believe they did invest in me but no tin an upfront manner. Looking back, I can see how they were building me up and allowing/facilitating my own development. This to me at the time was not noticeable however now is invaluable to me as I can leave knowing I am in a brilliant position at the beginning of my career.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    Sports and Social Club

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • The future employment for me here is looking extremely promising with managers and directors alike asking for me to keep in touch during my next few years at university and to let them know if I would like a year placement with them! I would be thrilled to continue working for such an influential company.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • My fellow placement students and I got on extraordinarily well, meeting regularly after work and at weekends. I also have really enjoyed getting to know my colleagues but unfortunately have not been able to make two events which were booked. Nonetheless everyone is absolutely lovely and will chat about anything.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • the North Eat is amazing! Best Place I have ever lived. The housing is a brilliant price and social nights never amount to more than £30 maximum which is extremely rare for large cities. Newcastle is an amazing city for culture and for shopping. It can provide so much with lovely areas to live.

    5/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Newcastle can not be beaten. Every night in Newcastle is different and so cheap. There are cubs which are free and drinks that aren't watered down for astonishingly low prices. I can not recommended a night out in Newcastle enough it will always be buzzing and hilarious no matter where you are.

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Working in such a large company provides some disadvantages, this being one. I would say though it may be due to the lack of time I have been here. I have had little time to explore the perks and all the exciting parts while working! I had hoped for more opportunities to pursue different activities
