    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Really enjoyed my internship in the Leeds office. Everybody was really welcoming and social. The work was interesting too and I worked with a variety of clients so had a good all round experience of life in assurance. Would definitely recommend to other people considering this internship especially in the leeds office.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I felt very valued. I got on well with everybody in the office and I felt at home straight away. We were invited to socials, going out for food etc which was nice and showed they were interested in getting to know me on a professional level but also as friends.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My buddy was super helpful and answered any questions I had during the internship. People understand you’re only an intern and will give you challenging work but will support you during it too. Everybody is understanding and want to help you during your internship to ensure you’re having a good learning experience.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I always had work to do but never felt overworked. The balance was good and the work was challenging at times but enjoyable. In times where you aren’t too busy there are other things to do such as training or admin - but also this is a great time to meet others and see if you can help them with other work too.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was giving a lot of responsibility. Initially I was in the office and had the responsibility to find my own work to do through networking with people in the office. When on client site I had my own pieces of work and projects to complete and so I felt the work I did was of value.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I’ve learnt how to network and communicate effectively but also how to work to an exceptional standard of detail. It will definitely make uni next year much easier! I’ve learnt a lot in such a short space of time and it will definitely help me if I have the opportunity to come back.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Everybody is really positive and friendly. I made friends with a lot of people and there was a lot of stuff to do outside of work; food, drinks, football etc. It makes a huge difference when you make good friends at work and I definitely did that. The culture is really nice and friendly at Leeds.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Everything ran smoothly, the student recruitment team are amazing and helped so much. The socials were really good too and it was a great opportunity to meet people from other offices. There were no problems and there were many opportunities to socialise outside of work and also learn a lot in work.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • We had sufficient training and learnt a lot during the internship. They made sure we were on track and were enjoying ourselves through counselling meetings and everybody made a huge effort to make the experience valuable and enjoyable. Would definitely recommend if you want to feel valued and invested in at work.

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Sports and Social Club

    Company Parties/Events

    5/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I think after getting to know everybody too, I would definitely like to come back. It definitely is a place where you can grow and develop both as a young grad but also as an experience professional. EY leeds definitely feels like a place you could spend your whole career as there is so much potential.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • It’s a very young office and everybody seems very social. There were numerous opportunities to socialise with people and get to know them outside of work. Unfortunately a lot of first years weren’t there because of exams but I’m sure they would be very social as well. It’s definitely a great place for the social aspect too.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Leeds is very affordable but also a very vibrant city, hence why I chose it. You get the benefits of good nightlife and things to do but without the hefty cost of London. It’s definitely a great city to live in especially as a young professional in your first ever job.

    5/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Leeds has a great nightlife. Pretty fun and vibrant City with many clubs bars pubs etc. There’s definitely something for everybody as it caters for most people. Everybody is really social too so nightlife is a bit part of socials outside of work. Definitely recommend if you want good nightlife too!

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There was a lot of stuff to do. Football most weeks and socials on weekends. We went out for food quite a bit which was nice and there’s definitely even more stuff if you wanted to get involved! I’d recommend it definitely if you want somewhere with activities and things to do after work.
