    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • It was really well structured. All the staff were very welcoming. The work was hard but challenging and I felt I received a good amount of feedback and appreciation on the work I had completed. I would recommend in the future however, there being some sort of Accountancy 101 introduction video or talk so that people without an accountancy background can have an initial idea of the sort of work included. Also for expenses, I felt there needs to be more support for payment. Luckily I had the money at the time for one of my away jobs auditing in Taunton, however it was over £300 out of my own pocket, and I don’t think it can be expected for an intern to have to do this.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I felt valued within the team to a large extent this was primarily because I was always included in team discussions and team meetings and everyone really values my opinion. My colleagues let me also help them on some of their outstanding work and were never condescending or arrogant considering I didn’t know as much as them.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • The feedback providers scheme I thought was very good. We met on a regular basis under confidentiality which I felt was extremely liberating. On a personal level, my counsellor was a very good listener and helped me with any problems I had or anything I needed. The whole office encouraged us interns to ask as many questions as possible and to not be afraid of getting things wrong - trying and learning from or mistakes was emphasised.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I was very busy throughout the six weeks, always involved in team discussions and team focus groups. I was given real work straight away and allowed to work independently within both the team and the clients I was dealing with. You are thrown in the deep end with the work if you haven’t done accounting before but you learn quickly.

    3/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given a lot of responsibility whilst I was on away jobs and jobs very close to the office this enabled me to learn quickly and learn a lot from both my colleagues and the clients I was dealing with I was given real work this made me feel very valued and helped me to have a proper insight into the company I was working for.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • As I’m doing anEngineering based agree the accountancy skills I learnt won’t directly help me in my degree direction however I am planning to go to do accountancy as a job in the future so the skills I learnt will definitely help me in later life. I approve this message.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The general atmosphere was very upbeat and happy I really enjoyed it and thought I got a lot with my colleagues and clients I work everyone was very friendly and happy to help in any situations that I found difficult. I couldn’t quite say the atmosphere was buzzing but it was electric still and I found it very easy to be motivated to work.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The overall structure of the internship was very well structured in my opinion everyone was very switched on about the interns role in individual projects and the central student with the team very informative and helpful in organising events and making sure everyone knew what they were supposed to do I was supposed to be.

    3/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I believe in terms of personal training I received a lot for me and it helps me in terms of confidence leadership working independently and working independently within the scene ends with the client directly I learnt a lot trying to help the team as a whole with the audit work which is assigned to us.

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Future work prospects within the white and very promising that graduate programs and follow on from the success if I was to receive this would be very exciting. I’ve heard the work phone employee is as exciting day today internship with a competitive salary that will help maintain great work home balance lifestyle.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There was a great social scene at DY Southampton everyone regularly like to do things together and other very social and sporting activities as an intern I felt very welcome within this framework where people always encourage me to go to practices and after activities to network and make friends.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • The cost of living wasn’t too bad I live with a friend in Southampton and it cost me a fraction of the price if I had to commute from my family lives in a tree and beat the prices of food and your not too bad either especially when you had some kind of colleagues offering to pay.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • The night life in Southampton was nearly non-existent for me people generally didn’t like going to clubs which meant I had to go solo on a few occasions but that doesn’t bother me because I am and I venture alone frequently nothing can stop the Dragon within. The people were great although going for drinks.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There were many opportunities to get involved in outside of work especially going for afterwork drinks with my colleagues he was very kind and paying for free alcohol but I greatly received we also played a lot of sport and other activities that I very much enjoyed whilst I was on my internship at EY.
