    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I found the internship fairly interesting, since there were a lot of ideas/technical skills I hadn't heard of or developed. The work was new mostly and I got to develop my skills, and the entire team was very welcoming and helpful. My only problem was that on less busy days I'd have to a lot of admin (scanning/filing) etc which soon became repetitive.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Colleagues involved me with time sensitive tasks almost straight away. I knew my work was necessary to move forward and my colleagues trusting me with these meant I felt highly valued. They also were vocal about appreciating my efforts and thanking me, as well as showing me the direct consequences of my work.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My buddy was very helpful, and spent the first week ensuring everything was set up for me and answering any questions. What I really appreciated was that he told the team in advance to leave work for me, so I wasn't bored and I had real work to do throughout the first week.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Days were fairly inconsistent based on deadlines. About 3/4 days out of 5 I'd be pretty busy but for the remainder of the week it would be much more relaxed. This depended on when clients wanted answers, and for example billing weeks would be more busy than others for the whole team.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • My work wasn't too technical once I'd learnt the basics, but it was important to help the team move forward. So on busy days my tasks would not be the most challenging, but they'd be crucial to my colleagues being effective and meeting client deadlines. I'd also help with client presentations and applications, so my work once reviewed would go straight into action.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • My office was very relaxed and everyone was very friendly. The few times there was pressure was when key client deadlines were near. I'd say it wasn't the most intense experience, but it was good to be casual over 6 weeks so I didn't feel burnout after some time had passed.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • There were special events for interns set up, some for networking and some socials. A weekly newsletter kept us all updated and a member of the student recruitment team called me and other interns individually to check up on us. A final event s setup to give us all information we needed.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • There was a training system for online and instructor led courses to improve knowledge in my sub service line, but I had to be proactive and actively apply for them myself. I also was able to receive feedback from colleagues and discuss these with my counsellor so I could see how to improve.

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Company Parties/Events

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • 3/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • 3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • My internship was in Central London. So there were plenty of pubs, bars and clubs to go to every night. There were alternative events to go to as well and plenty of young people in the area so they'd be popular. It was also near a uni so there were student friendly outings.

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • I was made aware there were plenty of different societies and events welcome to all. I didn't take part in many of these since I was only here for 6 weeks. However I know many full time colleagues who participate in activities out of work regularly and this is encouraged in the company culture.
