    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • The work we were set was of a very approachable level. We worked both in the office and on client site. It was great to be able to work with and interact with EY's clients as an intern. The teams were very helpful and gave great training and instructions for completing our work.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • My colleagues were very appreciative of all of the work I completed. They took the time to teach us both the theory and practical parts of the job. They gave great feedback regarding how we went about our jobs, both informally and through a formal feedback system. Everyone was very approachable.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Throughout the internship we had both a buddy and a counsellor to support us. The managers on my team were very approachable and easy to talk to about any concerns. They supported us both with the work and any admin details. They gave great advice for careers at EY speaking from their experiences and talking about other people they have known.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • For me personally, towards the beginning of the internship I felt that their often was not enough work for me to do on certain clients and I shouldn't have been assigned to them. I often instead completed a lot of online learning which probably wasn't as beneficial as completing work for clients.

    3/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • We were shown how to complete tasks and then trusted to complete them ourselves. Our work was always reviewed by people more senior than us by provided it was all of a good enough standard, then the work we had done would be the work that goes into EY making opinions about the client.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The skills I have learnt will not apply directly to my degree, but the development and training I have gained will put me in a great position when I hopefully start a career at EY. The confidence in communication, knowledge about the workings of businesses, and insights into the work that goes on will be very valuable in any future job applications.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • On my floor of the office we had a hot desk system so often people were sat in different places and with different people every day. Even the Partners were part of the hot desking and so were sat on the open office rather than hidden away in an office somewhere else.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The internship programme was very well organised. The introduction in London gave us a great idea as to what we would be doing over the coming six weeks. In my office some of the clients I was assigned to did not have enough work at a level that an intern could complete and so this aspect could have been organised better.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Everyone I interacted with over the internship was always interested in helping us achieve what we wanted to in our career. They were happy to talk to us about their personal experiences and their opinions on progressions within the company and which service lines were more suited to different types of people and why. EY have great online training courses too.

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    National Travel

    Company Parties/Events

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • After speaking to current staff at EY, I have found that the career progression within the company is very well set out. There is a system as to what you have to complete at each level within the company to progress to the next level and how this is possible. There are also opportunities to move about within the company, both location and service line.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Everyone in my office was very sociable. We often went out for lunch together as well as for drinks after work. When working on an away job at client site my teams were very sociable and we went out for evening meals together as well as for drinks and networking.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • It was very hard to find accommodation as someone who doesn't live near enough to the office to commute. Private housing was expenses and often didn't do tenancy for as short as six weeks. I ended up contacting someone I knew at the local university and asked them if I would be able to stay at their student house for the period.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Bristol has a very good nightlife. There are plenty of of bars and clubs catering to all sorts of types of people and types of events. There were several nice bars near the office which we often went to after work to catch up with colleagues. They were quite expensive compared to other places I've visited but were quite nice bars.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There were plenty of opportunities to get involved with activities both with the staff at the office as well as in the local area. I had the chance to play a game for the EY Bristol football team which was a great social and networking opportunity, as well as great exercise!
