    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • It was a great experience working with EY in London for 6 weeks, I learnt so much making it an invaluable experience. You have the opportunity to network with anyone with EY and they are all more than happy to meet up and chat if you want to know more about other areas of the business

    3/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I worked on a client site for the majority of my 6 weeks without EY, I was working alongside a team of about 8 and given work by the graduates which felt of real value as if I hadn’t got it done it would have been something they would have to do so it didn’t feel pointless.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • You can contact your counsellor or the summer internship team whenever you need via email and arrange to meet up also, however if you don’t initiate it they often don’t reach out to you so you have to be confident in yourself to network and get the help you need.

    3/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I got given lots of work by the graduates, whenever I had finished a task they had another one I could do. It was all about being proactive in finishing your work and asking what was the next thing you could do to help them, however sometimes they were too busy to explain new tasks.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I worked at the client site with my team and did real work they would need to do, it felt a lot of responsibility as if I got it wrong I would let down the team and delay them in meeting their deadlines. I also had to speak and email the clients for information

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I study economics so working within audit/assurance isn’t directly related to my degree as I realised coming in with not much knowledge to help with my work. But leaving with real work experience at a great company like EY will help me feel confident in applying for jobs in the future.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • We only had one social outside of work within my team whilst I was there which was a shame. The team work very hard and during the day they didn’t chat much, although at lunch time we all sat together and got to know each other better chatting along in the kitchen.

    3/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • It was very organised with the summer internship team sending us emails of events we had on and the timings of all of them. Having a work laptop with a work calendar in helped a lot to keep you organised with what you had on. I felt clear on what my 6 weeks entailed once I had joined.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The team I worked within gave me lots of one on one training and explanations on the work I was doing else I wouldn’t be able to do the work they needed me to do. So I feel I am leaving having learnt lots and having a great foundation for a job in audit in the future.

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • 2/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I have very much enjoyed working with everyone at EY, all the people here within all different service lines are so friendly and are more than happy to help whenever you get in contact with them. I would love to return to EY in the future for employment, I’m still unsure which service line is best for me though!

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There were several socials along the way organised by the summer internship team, such as a pizza evening half way through our time here and mini golf on the last day. My colleagues also arranged an after work social of drinks which brought the team closer together so there was a nice variety of activities.

    3/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • It was sadly very very expensive in London, food and drink costs are high, but also for me to travel in and out of London for the 6 weeks was incredibly expensive and sadly this wasn’t subsidised by the company, although work socials are paid for which is a bonus!

    1/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • London is buzzing with activities you can do, ranging from after work drinks, to a large variety of restaurant choices for lunch breaks and after work food. There is also lots of theatre shows always on, and many fun places to go out afterwards where you can meet up with friends.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Yes as mentioned they arranged a few socials. You could also get in contact with friends as London was a very popular area to take part in summer internship programmes so I knew many people in the area which made it easier settling into working life as you see other people doing the same.
