    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • My time was varied with lots of opportunity to get involved with different kinds of work. The work was challenging at the start but everyone was so willing to help and answer questions that it meant I learnt very quickly. The collaborative nature of the office was very evident with everyone willing to support one another.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I was worried about feeling like a spare part during my internship, but this was not the case. Everyone took the time to give us extra instruction when setting us work which meant by the end I had learnt so much that I felt able to be a valuable member of the team! Everyone was so welcoming with even the more senior members of the team willing to take time out to talk to us.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Everyone in the office was so supportive and friendly, especially our managers and colleagues setting us work. We had weekly catch up meetings with our managers to raise concerns and check in on workloads which were really useful. My managers were approachable and helpful and were my first port of call during my internship.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Most days I had plenty of work to be getting on with but it was quite varied depending on what my client teams had on at the time. Even when I was really busy I always managed to leave on time and was encouraged to flag if I didn't think this was going to be possible with others offering to take work off me. When I had no client work on I was always given material for personal development.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Nothing I was doing was completely down to me! All work was checked by at least 2 others as this is how all work is done within the office. Nonetheless, I felt the work I was doing had value and I could see where it fitted into each client team. We were responsible for organising a social for the whole office which was a good experience!

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The training sessions we received were really helpful and allowed me to gain wider industry knowledge which was really useful when carrying out the day to day work. We were asked to give a presentation on a relevant topic which was a great opportunity to develop skills you otherwise may not. The experience of being in a professional environment was invaluable and will help me in many different settings in the future.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The office was such a friendly, relaxed and collaborative environment. It was an open planned office with hotdesks so that you were always talking to someone new. We went on a few socials and pub trips which were really fun and a great way to get to know everyone in a less formal way.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • All communication before hand was well organised. When we arrived we had set training and all client teams were geared up to give us work and help us along the way. We had sessions set up with senior team members to talk to them about their lines of business which was really interesting. Overall it was very well structured
