    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I really enjoyed my placement year at TUI. It was great to get an insight into such an interesting business with so many aspects and departments that could be explored. We were not only given lots of responsibility in our own roles but encouraged and given the opportunity to explore the wider areas of the business too.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I definitely felt valued here at TUI in not only my immediate team but my wider team too. Everyone was so welcoming when I first arrived and even though I had never worked in an office environment before I was never made to feel as though I was treated differently for being a placement student.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I was supported and guided throughout my placement year by lots of different people and I felt that I always had the support I needed to grow and learn from management and in particular my manager, who was always there to help whenever I needed. I was given guidance throughout but also trusted to make my own decisions when needed.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • The role was busy and it had it's challenges at times but it was so rewarding and definitely a good balance. I can honestly say there wasn't a day where I was bored or looking for things to do and everyday had so many different tasks that it made every day exciting and fast-paced.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • During my placement year I was given lots of responsibility and in my opinion this is one of the best things about doing a placement year at TUI. As placements we do the exact same job as everyone else in the team and you are treated not as a placement student but as a normal member of the team. This has taught me so much in so many different ways and I think this will be invaluable to my future career.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The skills will definitely assist me in my degree studies next year, from time management to working under pressure (and so much more), I know that I will go back to Uni with so much more experience and I'm really looking forward to using all these skills in my final year and also in my career after uni.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere in the office was great, particularly within my team. I felt like even when things didn't go to plan and there was pressure within the team, everyone worked together and encouraged each other which meant that the atmosphere stayed positive and everyone else was motivated to get on with their jobs.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The placement year was organised and particularly at the start we had a 4 week training programme which I felt like really set the year off to a great start and eased us into the business. There was clear support throughout from the placement team and everyone used this when and as they needed.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I felt like the company really invested in our personal training and development. We were given the opportunity to use 4 half days around the business in any chosen department which gave us all the opportunity to see how other departments worked and gave us useful contacts for the future if we decided we would like to pursue another role. We were also really encouraged to go on training courses and learning days throughout the year.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    International Travel

    Company Parties/Events

    Above 25 days holiday

    Travel loan

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Future employment prospects are very appealing and I have been offered a job next year so I will be returning to TUI after I finish my degree back into the department that I have been in this year which is really exciting and I can't wait to come back to the organisation.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • The social scene within my team and the company was really good and there was lots of opportunity to socialise if you wanted to. Not many of the placement students socialised so this meant that we didn't go out as a placement group often but this didn't really matter as I socialised more in my team.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Living in Luton was relatively cheap and I lived in a house share which wasn't overpriced for what it was. However, if you wanted to go out then because we didnt live in a very nice area we went out of Luton which meant it was quite expensive and the surrounding nice areas are quite expensive to live/go out in.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • There is very little nightlife in Luton so we didn't go out here. However, it is very close and easy to get the Thameslink train to London / St Albans so we went out here when we wanted to which meant that the nightlife wasn't too bad and we made the most of it.

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There was lots of opportunities and social events to get involved in outside of work, particularly in the summer when the company put on summer parties, sports events and other things that everyone was encouraged to take part in. However, even though you were encouraged, if you didn't want to take part then that was fine too.
