    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Very positive experience overall. Felt lucky to work with highly experienced people and learned a lot throughout the year. Worked closely with colleagues throughout the year on a variety of different tasks that allowed me to learn multiple aspects of GNSS.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Everyone was very welcoming and caring throughout the year towards my progress and development. Everyone was friendly and we got on well - couldn't ask for more in that regard.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Was given one on one training with my manager at the beginning, for several hours a day to familiarise me with GNSS concepts and workflows. Other team members were also very approachable throughout the year, and I worked closely with them very frequently.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Was engaged in ongoing activities throughout the year and also assigned work from my manager as and when it was necessary. I rarely found there was nothing left to do, and if that was the case I could always speak to my manager and get some more work.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given the responsibility of covering for a colleague on data triage while he was away on holiday, and assisted him with this work throughout the year. I also made source code changes and reports. I appreciated the amount of responsibility I was given how much more experience my team members had compared to me.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I developed technical and soft skills which will be very valuable to my studies and future in general. My manager put an emphasis on correct data presentation, coding practices, and general clear communication which I feel are very useful attributes.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Great atmosphere in the office, relaxed and at the same time very hard working.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • I appreciated that the work planned for me gave me learning opportunities in multiple areas of GNSS and my team's workflow. I feel now that I am at the end, I have a clear understanding of all the different parts of my team and the wider organisation. I am happy to have made a meaningful contribution in multiple areas.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • At the beginning my manager took me to one side frequenty to explain necessary workflows and GNSS principals. This continued through the year, with other colleagues also taking time out of there schedule to help me out with any challenges I encountered. Online training courses for my role weren't too helpful but personal training I recieved more than made up for that.

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • National Travel

    Financial Bonus

    Company Parties/Events

    Working from home

    Healthcare/Dental

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Due to specific circumstances within the organisation I feel it will not be possible to be re-employed in my current role. We have been reminded that there may be opportunities available in the wider organisation in the UK.

    3/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Got on well with other placement students and went on days out with them to nearby places, and occasionally to pubs in the evening. The area we were living in was not a very student focused area which was perhaps the only drawback.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Very good price for rent, and other living costs.

    5/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • There was no nightlife, but this was not necessarily what I was looking for. Still managed to arrange social things to do with other interns.

    1/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Played badminton with colleagues at work at lunch time once a week, which was very fun, and soon turned competitive. Also went swimming at lunch times with colleagues. The number of opportunities for non-work activities were few, but what was there I very much enjoyed.

    3/5
