The Role
I like the team aspect of working in audit and personally I found it enjoyable to cooperate and communicate as part of a team working towards a common goal. I enjoyed learning more about financial statements and audit as the internship went on enjoyed it more and more as my knowledge grew.
My colleagues were very friendly when I joined a new team and they made me feel welcomed and settled very quickly.
My colleagues were very helpful and always took time to explain things to me when I was stuck or unsure. They often set aside time to give me a full introduction/briefing on both why I was completing a task and the actual instructions for how to do it.
On most days I was given new tasks to do whenever I had finished my previous task - I was given full and clear instructions on how to complete each task I was given. I was able to help various team members at different points of the week if they were particularly busy. However, there were some days where, due to the complexity of the tasks that were being completed at that point, there weren't many tasks that the team could give me which I was able to do.
I was given some responsibility in that I had to complete tasks which would go on to form part of the audit and I also engaged and spoke with the client. However, all of my work was guided and checked by people more senior than me and I never undertook tasks that were of critical importance.
I developed my understanding of the audit process and my knowledge of financial statements. I also improved my IT skills in using programs such as microsoft excel and other IT systems.
The Company
Generally it was friendly and people would always help me out if I needed. The office had a good balance of being friendly and sociable but also hard-working and quiet when work needed to be done.
The internship was well organised - each week I was assigned to a different engagement team and I was looked after by an associate for each client.
Was given a 3-day induction which included training using IT systems, accounting basics and an introduction to audit.
