    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • When working within the corporate tax division they made sure I was busy throughout the day by giving me 'mock' taxt calculations to complete. These allowed me to get a real idea of the day to day requirments of a graduate within the division.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was not given a great deal of responsibility due to my inexperience in the field. However, my colleagues endeavoured to involve me and explain issues that I encountered along the way.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The internship allowed me to further develop many of my skills that are essential for prosperous career. The firm arranged workshops where I was given lessons on areas such as presentation techniques, communication and team working skills. As a result, I believe I developed many transferable skills that will be benificial for me in the future.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The team I was placed within was very energetic and socialised regularly. They were very keen to get me involved socially which I was very grateful for, and believeed that added to the experience as a whole.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Grant Thornton arranged days out at their training facilities and also a number of workshops. Socially they also organised events that allowed the interns to socialise with each other and also other graduates and management. I especially enjoyed the weekly 'lunch and ;earn' where the interns would have lunch with employees from a different division each week. This allowed us to get a real insight into the firm and to understant its organisational structure.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • My colleagues took time explaining various concepts, which enabled me to better understand the work they were doing. The firm invested time in us in the form of workshops where we were able to develop our various skills sets.

    3/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • 3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I was given the chance to join Grant Thorntona as a graduate in their Corporate Tax division. I believe that the firm has only the highest aspirations for the future, and I admire its business strategy of differentiating itself from its competitors, rather than simply trying to become a 'Big 4' firm. I therfore believe Grant Thornton to offer a fantastic employment opportunity.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • The group of interns I was placed with were incredibly friendly and we often met for drinks or nights out after work. The firm itself also arranged social events for the interns allowing everyone to get to know each other.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Obviously due to the placement being in London socialising is reasonable exspensive relative to other cities. Also, it is quite expensive to rent in the area so a great deal of the money you actually earn will go towards covering that cost. I managed to get round this problem by living with family in London.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • As the placemnt was in London there are unlimited places to go and things to do, so in your spare time you will rarely get board. A quick tube ride will take you into th heart of London.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Grant Thornton arranged many activities outside of work that the interns were able to get involved with. For example organised an a ride on the Millenium Eye, followed by food and drinks in a bar close by. It was a very enjoyable evening for all of the interns.
