The Role
My internship was really enjoyable, the work was varied and interesting although there wasn't much opportunity for independence and choosing your own work area or job type. However the work environment was fun and other colleagues and fellow interns were eager to help and to socialise. Senior members of the team were also very approachable.
I felt very valued by my colleagues throughout the entirety of my experience. Staff were very approachable and the culture of teaching and learning on the job, in a practical sense, within the company means that everyone is eager to help. Other colleagues were very kind, sociable and encourage an interesting work environment.
As an intern I was given a high level of support from all those that I encountered within the firm. Supervisors and management take a real interest in you personal and professional career progression and questions and feedback are encourage. All colleagues are always eager to help you out.
I was very busy. The internship required you to do the same job as the other people on the team and so within an audit taking an active role was extremely necessary. Work was always available and given, and it was expected to be produced to a very high standard also.
I was given a lot of responsibility in my daily work. I was given the same tasks as other qualified members of the team and I was expected to talk to clients and ask them crucial questions. I worked independently on important tasks but always had the support of my team around me.
My degree is based in an entirely different subject to my work in the internship and as such it will help very little to not at all with that. However, the skills that I have gained will hopefully be transferable to my future career as I developed a lot of interpersonal and technological centred skills.
The Company
The atmosphere in the office was great whenever I got to be based ther however I was often placed on site. The office was lively and fun as well as being extremely mode. WIth ping pong and pool tables its aim was definitely to be a laid back and fun environment.
The internship was very well set up however aspects such as travel were not considered. The internship was never advertised as having travel as an imperative aspect yet my jobs were over an hour commute away since I do not drive and was never asked if I did. Those who did drive were placed on closer jobs by luck and this was an unfortunate resourcing and organisational issue.
The firm took a strong interest in my personal development both as an intern as a potential future employee. They offered an opportunity to have a high responsibility internship in accountancy and really took a focus to ensure we were active amongst clientele rather than just doing odd jobs. They took an active interest in making the interns document their own professional and personal goals through constant on the job feedback.

The prospects are very appealing. From the start of your internship you are told that the expectancy of you getting a job in the firm is extremely high if you really take the opportunity to enjoy your internship. Furthermore, if you get the graduate job you are given the opportunity to complete your accountancy qualifications through the company.
The Culture
Not particularly, interns rarely see one another as they are placed on a range of jobs and as such never really get the chance to be with each other. In the office there are many socials and over the space of my internship alone there was a free drinks night, a sports day and two away days.
I was lucky and the location of my internship allowed me to live at home which brought living costs down. The office is located in the heart of the city, yet despite this socialising costs were relatively cheap and socialising opportunities were extensive, only the cost of travel was quite high.
Nightlife was really good, it is a big city and loads of cheap and more expensive places to go out. There was a huge range and variety in the places to go out, with somewhere that would suit very type of personality. Midweeks weren't often lively but weekends definitely were.
Apart from away days and the occasional office drink and sports day there weren't many opportunities to do that much outside of the office. The staff were really friendly though but working on site in different cities mean after work activities etc. were often difficult to organise.
