    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • It was great. The teams are friendly and fun and support you throughout. Which makes the internship as great as it is. Apart from the office being situated in a great location, and the daily walks as part of the wellbeing company, there is so much to learn with no added pressure from the managers to have to learn it in an instant.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • My colleagues did treat me as a new addition to their family. It was a very fun and tight knit team, however I may have lucked out since my manager stated it was the best team. I was given actual responsibilities and was never left out of any meetings even if most of what was being said would go over my head.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I was lucky to have an amazing associate, manager and senior manager help me throughout my internship. The rest of the team also never hesitated to help me or give me tasks to do. I was in a very precarious position regarding my university and my team helped me through it and supported me even though they had a lot of responsibility on their plate.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • At the start of the internship I was busy and it was only in the penultimate week where I didn't contribute. It had nothing to do with my team. Rather, some of the regulations by which the processes had to be adhered to were too complicated for an intern. That is after all why there are 15 exams auditors have to go through.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given real work to do and I actually managed to find some misstatements and some quirks in formatting. It was rewarding because it meant I was given more responsibility and it meant I wasn't bored and that my team did think I was capable of helping. Of course the higher level work had to be done by certified and qualified members of the team, but there was still plenty that I did get an opportunity to do.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I did physics at university. So, this isn't the most relevant experience in terms of my degree. However, I did want to go into the finance world and I wanted to be part of a reputable company that isn't mired in fraud and fines year after year. PwC gives a great launching pad for anyone who does want to go into that with secondments into other fields and it will definitely assist me in the future.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Except for the last week which was signing (really stressful). We used to have daily well-being walks. When we are client's side which was a 30 minute walk, we walked back in the sun. There was always a good atmosphere in the office and it was almost always fun except for deadlines but that's to be expected.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • As mentioned before I was constantly given work and was only left without something to do 3 out of the 30 days, which is again due to the lack of my experience. So, I can't complain about how well it was organised.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • All the interns get a crash course before going to the office, however that was not sufficient. You really start learning whilst working and the team is always ready to answer questions and teach you. They improve you so that you can be better at helping them out.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Sports and Social Club

    Company Parties/Events

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • If offered the place I would definitely choose it, mainly due to the flexi-time, the location and the people. Also it is great to have all the learning opportunities you get at PwC and after 5/6 years you will also have experienced in many different business sectors.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • We organised and went out weekly. However it may not have been smart for me since I lived almost 2 hours away since trains aren't frequent after midnight and it did get messy. We also had lunches together and at the beginning of the internship, living in a hotel for 3 days you get comfortable enough to meet up throughout the internship.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • It's central London, nothing is cheap but that's to be expected.

    2/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Being a King's student this was my local nightlife scene and of course I am biased.

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • It is in reality a 5 week internship (you do get paid for 6) so it was harder to get involved in things outside of work as an intern. However I did join the sports socials, so it can be done.
