    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • The internship starts off with an induction, which was great to meet and talk to other interns! Throughout my internship I've felt very welcomed by everyone I met at the office and everyone was super friendly and willing to help / answer any questions I had. I had great exposure to the different teams within my department.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • A lot of people actually approached me to ask for my help with tasks, so it wasn't too daunting having to ask for work from everyone. My opinion was always valued and I was always treated as an actual member of the team whether it be work or the social events going on!

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I feel like there was great support from day 1, having a buddy and a career coach to answer your questions. You are given several inductions and told the basics, but you will learn a lot during the internship on your own accord - it just depends whether you want to independently learnt or ask your buddy questions!

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • This will depend on the department you work in. Some departments aren't particularly busy in the summer, so you may find that you'll have days or a few hours in the day where you won't have work, despite asking for work. However, with that being said, I did manage to get at least 1 piece of work every single day of my internship! Just ask around.

    3/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Again, I think this will depend on your team. If you build good rapport with others, they will give you more responsibility and work e.g. take you to client sites, allow you to present something in front of the team etc. So long as you are keen and eager to learn, you will be able to get more responsibility, but every piece of work or day might not be completely filled with responsibility.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I felt as though I have learnt a lot in the 6 weeks, especially about the culture and having a career at PwC. I have developed many skills such as being able to conduct myself in a professional manner in front of clients and this will definitely help with my career in the future.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Depends what office you are in. I was in one of the London offices and it has an amazing culture and atmosphere. There is hot-desking, meaning you can get to know a lot of different people. Work life is flexible, people are sociable and it doesn't feel "corporate" at all!

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • It was well organised in general all the way from the application process to the entirety of the internship. I felt as though perhaps some individuals at the office are not aware of certain things e.g. how the decision to whether you get a grad offer or not. So, if you have a question about the logistics / admin of the internship you should ask those sorts of questions to your buddy!

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I have never seen a firm invest so much in interns. PwC has really made sure that they have put all the right things in place to ensure that interns have the most enriching experience - after all, the graduate / internship application process is the exact same, so they want to make sure they select good interns that will want to stay on as grads!

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Sports and Social Club

    National Travel

    Company Parties/Events

    Working from home

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Very appealing. The people here are driven, motivated yet friendly. The fact that I have felt valued not just as a colleague but as a friend, means that I will definitely want to come back as a grad. Furthermore, the exposure to different sorts of clients is definitely eye-opening and insightful to the type of work a Big 4 firm does!

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Depends. At the induction all the interns socialise together, but since everyone is in different offices, it's hard to catch-up / maintain those friendships! Also, at your office you may find that you work / socialise most with people in your team (existing colleagues) rather than other interns. But, either way you will come across other interns, it's your choice who you hang out with! The social scene is decent, there are also loads of socials that go on!

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Depends on what office you are in. In the London offices obviously it would be much more expensive in terms of travel and food, but you can find cheap places if you're willing to walk a little bit during lunch! Drinks are expensive in London of course but it's up to you how much you spend.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Nightlife in London is good, but expensive. Depending on what office you work in, you might find that you won't have that many opportunities to go out as you'll most likely be tired! I found that a lot of the London offices prefer to go out and play sports instead.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Plenty! There's always something on whether it be sports or drinks in general. A lot of it is free as well, either subsidised by the firm or paid for by a partner. Just ask your buddy to talk to the people that organise it so they can send you an invite! There are plenty of "clubs and societies" so get involved!
