    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I have enjoyed it very much, I was able to get put on pieces of work that I was interested in and the team around me were very welcoming and supporting. The system at PwC allowed me to feel part of quite a small team very quickly and integrated me well

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I was put on a variety of projects and allowed to work as I saw fit, I was given creative freedom in producing presentations, but with experienced support to help me through the work. I was asked at the start what sort of work I would be interested in and I was able take part in that area when it became available

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • The system at PwC gives you a buddy and a career coach. My buddy would sit near me whenever he was in the office and provide assistance on day to day problems either to do with work or not. The career coach would try and find work for me and recommend senior figures for me to talk to throughout.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I was very busy, in part down to the plan of the team for me when I arrived and in part due to my proactive behaviour. I would find times when I wouldn't have a full days work at the start of the day but by chatting to people I would be able to get put on projects which interested me and kept me busy

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was entrusted to an extent to produce work on my own. I had to feed this back to superiors for obvious reasons to make sure it was up to a certain quality. Within the team a team meeting was held and I was given the responsibility to create the presentation for this.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • In terms of specific skills to help with my degree I believe there isn't much crossover due to the nature of the internship and my degree. I have obtained a valuable work ethic from sticking to a daily routine which may support my studies however. In terms of beyond my degree, I believe I have learnt a lot about the work PwC do and if I returned I would have a strong starting basis to work from

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The summer is usually quieter than the winter months so generally there was a bit more free time around the office than my colleagues usually have. This meant the atmosphere was a lot more relaxed than I expected. The team I worked with was quite small so everyone knew each other well and this created a fun group to work with.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • From my first interview for the internship to my last week, student recruitment have been in contact with me to make sure everything is going okay. The team I worked with also had various members with different levels of experience able to provide support. I never felt lost or didn't know what to do. It was run very well.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The company allowed me to take various training courses or Lunch&Learns in which external speakers would come to the office and provide insight into a very specialised area of work. This meant I was able to fill my time when I wasn't as busy with developing my knowledge base. They also provided opportunities for me to travel and meet clients and see the work that the firm does for other businesses. This investment allowed me to gain a real insight into the various work PwC takes part in.

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?

    Sports and Social Club

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    National Travel

    Company Parties/Events

    Above 25 days holiday

    Working from home

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I am still yet to find out if I will receive an offer from the firm to take a graduate role. However, the message from the manager level upwards has been very positive with plenty of the junior team I work with now being ex-interns themselves. I only put a 7 as I haven't officially got the job yet.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • This is quite difficult to quantify. I was put in a team as the only intern on a different floor to the other interns who were all together in a much larger team. The social side with the other interns therefore was difficult however I did play sports with a few of them, organised in the company. The social scene amongst my colleagues in my team was very good however, every Friday there was something to do and this wasn't restricted to the same sort of activity week on week.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • The cost of living in the area I worked in is very expensive as far as I can understand. I lived in a much cheaper part of the city so for me it wasn't too bad and commuting wasn't too much of an issue. Around the office the food/drinks etc were fairly expensive, however this didn't impact on my ability to socialise as the internship paid me sufficiently.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • There were plenty of options and because most of the team I was in were fairly young this was very much an option for me. Manchester has vast array of options when it came to nightlife and these were generally explored by my colleagues. The nights could vary in terms of music/cost/size so there was something for everyone

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Yes, on my first day I was shown the social bulletin board which had a variety of options on for me to take part in. I played football for the 6 weeks I was here for a social team. When I was at the friendly Wednesday night game they suggested I should play in the official Sunday team as well, although this started after my internship this is definitely something I would take part in if I returned to the company.
