    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • It was a great experience as I got to know the team and what their roles are as well as learning new software packages and applying them to some tasks. The work was enjoyable and challenging and I was able to work with lots of different people on different projects.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Some of the work I did was used in meetings and presentations, as well as for clients and the feedback was positive and the work was appreciated. Overall I felt valued by my colleagues, even if it was helping them out with some simple tasks that they did not have time to complete.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I could talk to anyone on my team and others at any point, or send them a quick message and they would help me and answer any questions I had. I had regular meetings with my buddy and career coach and I was always made aware of where I can go if I needed help.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Towards the end of the internship I was busier with tasks from a few different projects which involved applying what I had learnt throughout the internship. Towards the beginning I had more free time, so to fill that time I actively searched for ways to develop my understanding by taking courses on software packages online.

    3/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • The tasks I were given were not of a high level of responsibility as I had not had time to be trained sufficiently, however I did work with client information and so discretion was of high importance. Some of my work was and still is used for the teams and clients.

    3/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I had access to training sites, such as Pluralsight, of which I was able to train in SQL, Python, Alteryx and other software packages. Python will be very useful in my degree, and if I was to choose to work for PwC in the future all of those skills will come in great stead.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere was ideal. It was open plan, meaning that you could have both normal and work conversations with anyone at any time. The dress code was 'Work to your day', so there were no strict rules on what you had to wear, and everyone was happy to talk to you.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • I wasn't given a schedule or plan per say on what meetings to attend or what work I had to do, however I was able to get work most of the time from people in my team. It would have been nice to have a mini project to work on for the whole 6 weeks, but I know this is hard considering everyone is working with clients.

    3/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The courses and training for software packages and other qualifications are provided for by PwC and you have the ability to specialise in almost anything that you wish. They take care of you and definitely organise the internship as I you were going to join them once you have graduated, but without any pressure to actually join them if you don't wish to.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Sports and Social Club

    National Travel

    Company Parties/Events

    Working from home

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Very appealing. There are loads of opportunities to join different projects, clients and team members depending on what you are interested in. There is also a clear development ladder that allows you to know where you'll be in 3 or 4 years, and it gives you the flexibility to go further or stay at the level you wish.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There are regular monthly socials and socials within the team that you work in, but it depends on the people also. I had the opportunity to play football in a 5-a-side office tournament, which was a great way to know my team and other teams that were also playing. There is a social club you can join also.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I was living at my University Student accommodation so it was no extra cost to me. The office is centrally located and was easy and cheap to get to, and the new office will be equally as convenient also. Socialising costs a bit more due to it being central Birmingham.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • The nightlife is great in Birmingham. There are loads of bars, pubs, clubs, bowling and similar venues that you can go to, all in close proximity to the office. I went out with my team a few times to some pubs and bars, and on my final day myself and the other interns went clubbing to celebrate.

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There are lots of sports socials that you can join, as well as the whole office social every month and team socials. It depends on which team you are with or who else you socialise with, but it is easy to find something that interests you. Not all of them involve drinking alcohol too.
