    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I enjoyed my internship, I was able to meet very interesting people and work in a cool/modern environment with a lot of support. It gave me invaluable insight into the industry and will have shape my career path in the future.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Very valued, my colleagues were the best part of my internship, they were there for me when I needed coaching, and were able to bond during our time working together, and made me feel very comfortable and welcome, this was not just from the lower levels, but from associate up to manager level

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I have very good guidance, I was given constant coaching on tasks and could simply message anyone on my team for help and they would be happy to respond and give me advice, this was also true of management, who would make time to help me.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Some days I was relatively busy and some days not, overall the majority of the days were in a nice balance of having work to do but not being time pressured or stressed about their completion.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given a decent amount of responsibility, given the nature of the work and being unqualified, there was not much I could do in some cases, as I had no idea on the topic, and was left to do rather menial tasks such as updating time stamps and checking for spelling/grammar errors, but othertimes I was coordinating with a team abroad to get work done, in these cases I was leading a team or atleast coordinating one on a task.

    3/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I think the understanding of a business that I have gained through my work will be very useful, as I have a better understanding now, but given my degree is not related to the field, and the very specific nature of the method of work, I feel the majority of daily skills I have are not too transferable.

    3/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • A very relaxed vibe, however I feel this was due to the fact it was a regional office, as when I went to the main london office it felt much more intense and pressured.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • In some cases it was very seamless, such as getting our technology and setting us up, and in other cases not so seamless, as the teams we were joining were not necessarily aware of us joining and the lack of welcome felt in the regional office made us feel a bit like we were forgotten, but when we got to meet colleagues this was alleviated.

    3/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • We had a 3 day training programme at the beginning of the internship, and then further training online when we were in the office on the fourth day, so they did help us develop and train throughout our time here.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Subsidised Canteen

    Sports and Social Club

    National Travel

    Staff Sales/Staff Shop

    Working from home

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Very good, I enjoyed the firm and would like to work here in the future, however the work that I completed was not so interesting, so I would ask to change my role to a more preferred line of service.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Yes, as interns we would go out every friday for a drink or two after work, and every month there was a wider drinks social organised by the social club. We also played in a football tournament as interns in a sports committee organised event.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • It was relatively expensive, as we were in the Jewelry Quarter area of Birmingham, so prices were similar to that of London for drinks (£4 pints), but there were some relatively cheaper places to get drinks (£3.30 pints).

    2/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • As its central birmingham you have a lot of choice, so the nightlife is pretty good.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Yes, we played in a football tournament together as mentioned, although this was one of the only opportunities available to us outside of the friday drinks too.
