    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • The work was very interesting and applied - with a good blend of internal and client-based projects. I got the opportunity to work alongside employees from Associate level to Directors. Overall it was a very enjoyable internship and I have learned a lot from the experience, both from dedicated learning platforms and from more senior team members.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I felt very valued by my colleagues - from the first or second week I was given tasks of real value by my seniors and was expected to work independently. I had a good amount of support and everyone was very appreciative of the work I had done whilst here.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Each intern is allocated to a 'buddy' - usually an associate, who is there to answer any questions you may have and introduce you to the team. In addition to this everyone has a 'career coach', usually a more senior member of the team, who reviews your goals, assesses your feedback and is generally another means of support. In this sense I felt there was a lot of support and guidance.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • The first few days were a little slow, whilst our projects were being organised and assigned to us. But from then onwards I had an extremely good balance of work. It was never too much that I had to stay extremely late but I was rarely bored at work. I was very satisfied on this front.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • On internal projects I was given a lot of responsibility. Managers and associates would give me tasks to complete independently which were of real value to the project. On client projects I would work more closely with the senior members of the team who would supervise my work - but I still had good autonomy.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • My technical skills have developed significantly, particularly in Python, SQL and Machine Learning. This will stand me in good stead for my final year at university and beyond and was the primary motivation behind my application for this internship. Their access to Udemy courses in particular was a real asset.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The office was more casual than expecting which I really liked. People dress for their day, meaning formalwear when on client sites usually but more casual attire otherwise. The team regularly has lunch together and go for drinks after work which were enjoyable. There's plenty of coffee and snacks available too, which aided a positive working environment.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The overall internship was well organized. A residential induction at a hotel in Windsor gave us a good introduction to the company, although the content could perhaps have been more relevant to specific departments. Similarly, the projects we were working on were great, but could perhaps have been organized slightly earlier.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • We were given full access to the Udemy platform to upskill in whichever areas were required. For me this consisted of a course in Python and Machine Learning which helped me massively. We were also allocated a laptop and iPhone for work purposes so the interns did feel like we were receiving a good level of investment from the firm.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Company Parties/Events

    Above 25 days holiday

    Working from home

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Future employment prospects are very appealing - progression within the firm is explained in detail to the interns which was very insightful and useful. We were given the opportunity to workshadow other team members as well to gain an understanding of what different teams do in case that was a better suit. Many get graduate offers.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • The residential induction was very social and PwC put on some great events during our time in Windsor. We also had several team lunches, drinks after work and in general everyone was very sociable. I even attended the Forensics summer party, which was very large so I met lots of people.

    3/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • London is obviously very expensive so cost of living and socialising is high, but this will not be a surprise to anyone. Employees are paid well enough to be comfortable though but Londoners will always have higher expenses compared to teams working at the regional offices. They cover many expenses also.

    2/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • 4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • 2/5
