    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Had a fantastic time working at PwC this summer. The firm does a lot of very important work and they make you feel welcomed even as an intern. By the end of the internship, I genuinely felt like I had contributed and made a difference. The highlight was the amazingly friendly team and higher management, who were both knowledgeable and friendly.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Coming in as an intern it would be understandable if we were given menial tasks and herded into a separate corner of the office. This was not the case however, as you are given a buddy and career coach to help you settle in and introduce you to people, and are given meaningful projects to work on. Surprisingly, everyone from Associates up to Partners are welcoming and happy to chat.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I was given support throughout the internship by my project supervisor, and he was more than willing to spend time with me to fix problems despite his busy schedule. Staff were approachable so I could easily approach specialists for more technical questions if needed. The career coach was available throughout to provide support regarding the internship and personal development.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Personally, I was given substantial work throughout the internship and had a lot of enjoyable work to do throughout. Although there was a lot to do, I never felt stressed or under pressure. Given the nature of my project, I was constantly finding new things to work on and develop. However, I know that some of the other interns had periods of downtime especially near the start and end of internship, when they didn't have much work to do.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was responsible for my own project as I was working independently and wanted to have the best possible end product to best provide value for the company. However, since this was an internal project, there wasn't much responsibility from a corporate perspective. Although some interns were involved in more client-facing projects, it is understandable that they don't throw us into the deep end right from the beginning.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Much of my learning was done independently, and was aided greatly by learning from others at the firm, as well as by the e-learning resources we were given access to. I learnt a great amount, developing skills I was already familiar in, as well as learning new skills and technologies which will be invaluable moving forward in my career.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere was extremely friendly and relaxed, which the "dress for your day" dress code definitely helped with. People seem to enjoy a good work-life balance and enjoy their jobs, and there are plenty of opportunities to join colleagues in social, sport or entertainment events outside of office working hours.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The internship was generally well structured, with 3 days of residential induction to help you get settled and meet new people at the beginning. For me, the rest of the internship was well structured with regular career coach meetings and project updates. I am aware that some interns were briefly stuck in limbo between projects when they didn't really know what to do. However, this was only really a problem at the beginning of the internship.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The company invests a great deal in you, right from the residential induction at a lovely estate to the projects and training given during the internship. It seems like the firm genuinely cares and gives you a lot of opportunities to develop your skills and knowledge to further tour career.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    National Travel

    Company Parties/Events

    Working from home

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I received an offer at the end of my internship for a graduate job the following year.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There were plenty of opportunities to socialise, with socials booked after team meetings as well as general drinks after work with colleagues. Even during the day, people are happy to have a quick catch-up over coffee or lunch, so this provided a nice social element to days of the internship.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • London is notoriously expensive, and I was renting a flat nearby the More London office for the duration of the internship, which was naturally expensive. However, a lot of interns managed to handle their finances well by staying a bit further out and also making their own packed lunches to bring in to office.

    2/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Can't really comment on this since I wasn't involved in any nightlife, but London is well known for its fancy (if expensive) nightlife scene.

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There are several PwC networks you can get involved in for sports and recreational activities. As interns however it did feel a bit daunting to jump into networks given the short duration of the internship, so consequently I don't know many interns who were involved in sports outside of work.
