NBCUniversal is a large and structurally complex workplace. However, it is also one of the most enjoyable work environments. There are many benefits to enjoy as an employee, which interns are entitled to as well. You are treated more like a valued employee than you are as just an 'intern'.
Colleagues are extremely friendly and helpful. They make the experience of joining a large company much less daunting.
I had weekly 1-2-1s with my line manager to align goals and focuses for the week ahead. This was extremely useful for me to track my progress, manage expectations, and understand the requirements of my role. I with there was more of this from the Early Careers team though, as this would help more so with my overall development as part of the intern programme.
The workload can be extensive, at times. But this comes in peaks and troughs.
I was given a lot of responsibility and ownership of my own initiatives, both inside and outside of my role. NBCU is a great place for owning your development and seeking opportunities outside of your usual work in order to progress your development.
This placement has greatly helped me to better understand myself, my skills and assets and how I can use this for future positions.
Very convivial and enjoyable. Rarely hostile.
Overall work was very planned and structured. Less so for the internship programme itself.
Average. Never attended a proper training session, though these are available to some, but valued the overall workplace experience and saw the value in this as a development opportunity.
Sports and Social Club
Above 25 days holiday
Working from home
Lots of opportunities to be had, however some recruiters within the business can appear apprehensive to hiring interns due to 'lack of experience'
On average, £550 a month for travel from the Essex area and £100 a month on socialising, though internal events take this price down considerably
Plenty of nightlife in London but rarely got to experience this due to long work hours and commuting from outside the City.
I actively set up a new Employee Resource Group whilst at NBCU called the Young Professionals Network. The company encourages getting involved in activities outside of your work, especially volunteering opportunities.
