    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I have thoroughly enjoyed my placement at Pfizer. Although there has been many challenges to overcome, the support I have been given at Pfizer has helped me to excel within my job and myself. I have enjoyed the work I have carried out throughout the year and learnt so much.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • As soon as I arrived everyone was so welcoming and supportive towards me. Throughout the year they have answered my many many questions and helped me to further improve my knowledge. I never felt like I couldn't ask for help and everyone was willing to go out of their way to help.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Both my supervisors provided lots of support and guidance but still allowed me to independently overcome challenges and come up with ideas. I received loads of feedback and guidance on the pieces of work I completed to help further improve them and knew I could ask questions when stuck with something.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Throughout the year, the amount of work I had to do varied, however I never felt like I was given an overload of work that I couldn't handle. I never ran out of things to do and ensured I stayed busy to get as much out of the year as possible.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Once all the training is completed, most of the work I completed was independent however I also worked with others. For my project, a lot of responsibility was given to be to plan what I wanted to do and ensure it got done, however I never felt like I was pressured or left alone with too much responsibility. For the other work I completed, I was given a task and left responsible to get the task done but was always able to ask if I got stuck.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The skills I have developed will help me massively next year with my Research Project, as well as beyond uni when I go into a job. All the training I received will definitely aid with my degree and has allowed me to be more confident within the lab and given me the skills that will be so useful in the future.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere in the office allowed me to easily get on with my work as well as making the work easier with all the people around me. Everyone was friendly and happy to answer questions but also wanted to get their work done and work hard. There were lots of different parts in the office with different atmospheres.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The placement was organised well, before I came I was given information on the project I'd be doing. When I first started I was introduced to everyone and told exactly what I needed to do to get me started. By doing a project and day to day work I met a number of different people and was exposed to lots of different parts of the department.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The company allowed me to develop in the areas I wanted too. If I wanted to I could have attended weekly session to improve my presentation skills. I was also allowed to attend a conference on the type of work I was doing to allow me to see the number of different people working on different things.

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Everyone at Pfizer is lovely and welcoming so I definitely would consider coming back to Pfizer once I have graduated from uni. I enjoyed the work so am looking to go into something similar after graduating. The opportunities Pfizer offers are endless and they really support you in terms of personal and work development.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There was a really good social scene, there were around 30 undergraduates all doing different types of placements. We all meet up as all live close to each other. We also have organised more formal Christmas meals and leaving meals which has been really nice as well to do something different!

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Actually living in Sandwich is expensive and there are not many houses that can be rented. However, most of the undergrads have lived in Broadstairs or Ramsgate which is only about a 20 minute drive to work. The house we have rented this year was really cheap in comparison to my past houses in Birmingham.

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • In Sandwich, there are only really a few pubs, however in Broadstairs and Ramsgate there are lots of bars and pubs which are relatively cheap, a long with the largest wetherspoons in the UK! If you head into Canterbury as well there are clubs and bars as well with bit more of a nightlife.

    2/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Along with normal work, there are lots of other things you can get involved in. I became a Stem Ambassador and went into a number of schools doing different demos to try and show what we do at Pfizer and how to get into science. It was amazing to see the amazement on some of the children's faces from some of the demos.
