Communications and Marketing Intern Review

I really enjoyed my placement. In particular, I loved how I was given real tasks to do within my team. I definitely wasn't short of things to do but at the same time I didn't feel pressured. The 'campus' at Gogarburn is amazing and so is all the facilities offered there.

I felt extremely valued by my colleagues of all levels. I think there is an amazing ethos at RBS where everybody is valued irrelevant of their position. I felt respected by everyone and I felt like each colleague valued my opinion. I think this is the case throughout the whole bank.

I was given a lot of support from my line manager. We had weekly one to one meetings in order to make sure I was okay with all the work that I had to do and to check how I was doing in general. I also felt very supported by her in any project that I had.

I was considerably busy, but not too busy. There was never a point when I was bored or had nothing to do. However I equally did not feel overwhelmed or stressed. There were lots of things to do within my team and then generally for interns.

I was given a good level of responsibility. I was able to liase with external stakeholders etc. But I always felt like I was supported. My work was checked before I sent anything out which made me feel really supported. I was given a good level of responsibility with intern based projects too.

The internship was amazing for personal development. RBS really does care about your personal development and shaping you as a person for the future. I received a lot of training and there is loads on offer. This is stuff I will take into my final year at University and beyond.

The C&M department has a really fun and creative atmosphere. This balanced well with professionalism and I think it is a really good mix. There are lots of interactive opportunities and this makes the atmosphere good. It's also great to be surrounded with other people who share your passion.

It was very well organised.

I think the company invest a great deal in your personal development and training. it is something that they make clear they are very passionate about. There are loads of training and learning opportunities available and these are in the form of workshops or online. I think it is amazing what they offer.

Extremely appealing

There was an extremely lively social scene with other interns. There were lots of opportunities to socialise that were organised by RBS. There were also lots of opportunities to socialise less formally as the interns created a group chat. I think it is an amazing opportunity to see Edinburgh, especially in the Fringe!

The cost of living in Edinburgh can be high but is low when compared to London and such like. In terms of living costs - such as food etc - I would say it is an average price. However when going out there are lots of opportunities to get save money, as Edinburgh have various clubs and pubs with cheap drinks and student discounts.
