  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Although focused on performing Business As Usual, my team was incredibly friendly since day 1. Especially that half of the team converted from graduate roles, they were incredible in putting themselves in my shoes and helping me to understand the roles they are taking. On a day-to-day basis, I felt included even in the casual conversations or after-work events.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Due to health and personal circumstances, my initially assigned supervisor took a large amount of time off at the beginning of my internship. However, it was great to have somebody else within my team taking the responsibility to support me and answer my questions when he was available, at least once a day.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • From soft skills to coding and problem solving, all the skills developed will prove useful throughout my future career, as well as in interacting with different people. The diverse environment and inclusive working culture helped me improve my personal skills, while coming from a non-technical background forced me to learn quickly about systems used within the company.

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Much more relaxed than expected. Given everyone in the team was incredibly open-minded, they allowed for flexible breaks, they were joking in moments full of tension to relax and were incredibly friendly and approachable throughout my internship. The company culture indeed shaped everyone's behaviour for the better, making it more inclusive and relaxing.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The HR team did an incredible job in allowing us to network with very senior individuals and a very diverse environment. We had almost daily events - either trainings, or insights from seniors in the organisation. We were also very lucky by meeting the EMEA CEO or Global Head of IBD.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • We had 2 initial days of training, at least in my division. However, other divisions had 5 days full of training starting at 9 AM and finishing at 5PM, depending on the role. On top of that, we benefited from a full day of soft skills training, one week later.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Living in London does not come cheap. It depends if you prefer living closer to the office, which bears a higher cost, but saves you money on transport, or further away and have more options to chose from. In terms of socialising, given the area is full of affluent people, that is not cheap neither.

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • In Canary Wharf, people normally go for drinks on a Friday night and maybe Saturday evening. But it is not a student area, so there is not much going on in these terms, unless you are willing to commute to the City of London, where everything comes at a relatively big price.

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • The graduate team is organising periodic volunteering events, so there were numerous opportunities to contribute to a cause outside work. Also, we had a community day as part of our internship, which is a lovely way to share back to the community. Generally such activities are encouraged outside business as ususal activities.
