    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I am currently interning at Citi and it has been a fun and exciting journey thus far. The program kicked off with a training week in London which was packed with fun-filled and engaging activities. The people have interesting stories to share, and they love to have a chat with their interns. I meet at least one new person everyday and learn something from each interaction.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • As an intern I am pleasantly surprised at the level of attention I am getting from my colleagues. They are all very approachable and answer questions patiently. If they are not available to talk, they always fix another time to chat. Senior leaders in my department also take personal interest in my progress and check up on me regularly.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My supervisor has been available since day one to support and guide me. At times when he is busy, there is always someone else from the team who can answer my questions and give me a sense of direction. The internship has a very focused approach so I always know what I am supposed to work on.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I am moderately busy on a daily basis, which means I have to get a certain amount of work done and I still get around an hour to take a break and grab lunch. The pace of work differs person-to-person, I believe. If you plan ahead and manage your time well, there will hardly be a day where you have to work too much.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • The tasks I was given to complete were actually useful to the senior management, so I would say that that is a lot of responsibility, which is a big plus. However this is not to say that I felt over-burdened, because I had colleagues helping me out every step of the way.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The skills I am developing here -- such as communication, presentation, networking, technical skills, to name a few -- are critical for success in any educational or professional environment, and I believe they would help me throughout my career. Some technical skills that I have acquired will certainly help me on the job as well in the future.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The general atmosphere is fast-paced and productive. It tends to get busier later on in the day as more calls and e-mails start coming in. There is never a dull moment as there is always something going on. I usually just walk over for a quick chat with my fellow interns in other departments if I feel bored at my desk (which is also very rarely).

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The internship is super well organized! The goals for each intern are distinct and specific, and they have to work on those right from day one. There are also regular performance reviews so corrective action can be taken in a timely manner. There are proper channels for feedback from the interns' end as well.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The internship started off with an intensive training program at the company's regional headquarters in London. Since all of the training expenses were borne by the employer, I would say that they invested a lot financially. The HR was committed to the success and wellbeing of each and every single intern.

    International Travel

    Company Parties/Events

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Because of their focus on personal growth and development, Citi would always be my first choice of employer. There are training and development opportunities available to employees at every stage, should they choose to avail those. There is also great potential for career progression. The culture is inclusive and rewarding.
