    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I fully enjoyed every aspect of my internship. I could not have reasonably asked for a placement year to be better; interns are treated well and respectfully throughout the business, the team I worked in was incredibly welcoming, and the work I was tasked with was relevant, interesting and important to the running of our department.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Interns, from all of my experience, are very clearly valued within the company, being given the opportunity to work on real, exciting projects and having their views listened to and respected.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My manager could not have been more supportive. I worked within a small team where everyone I worked with was incredibly patient, clear, and supported me whilst I learned the various aspects of the role. They would provide amazing feedback to help me improve, and I felt that when my work was good, it was recognised. This really was the strongest aspect of my placement, as the working environment provided by my manager allowed me to work and learn without fear of asking questions, trying new things, and made me feel motivated to go above and beyond, where possible.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • My workload did vary across the year, however never reached a point where it was unreasonable. I was able to organise my own time and prioritise tasks as I saw fit. When I had less work, I was encouraged to try new things to develop and improve processes and the work we produce.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I felt as though I was given a high amount of responsibility. I was allowed to take on new tasks, and assist the manager and analyst in almost all projects that the department worked on. When the analyst left the business, I was given the responsibility to take on their existing tasks.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I believe this placement has provided me with the opportunity to learn, and develop my own skills, and has left me feeling as though I have a much better idea of the type of career I wish to pursue, and how to go about doing that. There was ample, high-quality training courses and resources available to all interns.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere was really good, and better than I had initially expected. The offices were renovated during my internship, moving us into a more open-plan workspace which allowed us to interact with other departments more and work more collaboratively.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Very, very well organised. The HR department provide regular contact and updates regarding our internship, training available, and were very supportive during the weeks prior to my placement starting, facilitating a meet-up day for all the interns and helping everyone communicate through social media. It felt like there was always a planned structure to the internship.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The company provided all interns with numerous training sessions to help improve our ability to work on our own and to collaborate with others, and my manager allowed the budget for me to go to a full-day training session of a specific industry software tool, which will support me even after my internship.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Company Parties/Events

    Working from home

    Travel loan

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • The company does not provide a graduate scheme, however the impression given is that keeping strong contact links with those within the business can allow for you to be considered for future roles, when available, and there appear to be a few ex-interns working within the company.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Yes, for those who wished to be involved with the other interns, the social scene was really strong. The interns were very inclusive and welcoming and the group as a whole did a lot together.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • The cost of living was high, and the cost of going out even higher, but this is really what you sign up for when working in London. The intern salary was a little on the low side at the time I did my internship, however it seems the company has increased this now from last year, meaning this isn't really an issue.

    2/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Good! Central London has loads going on, with a lively atmosphere and loads of bars, clubs and other things to do. If only it wasn't so pricey!

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Yes, the company organised loads of charity events to take part in and the interns as a group did a lot together.
