    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I personally really enjoyed my time at PwC. I worked in a small closely knit team that managed information for clients on a monthly basis. We created financial solutions, reconciled them and worked with seniors to ensure all relevant changes we're made. The work I was doing was not what you would imagine for being the lowest ranked within the team and at no point did I feel I was given the work that no one else wanted to do.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I actually felt extremely valued by my team. Being part of such a small team each of us had quite an important role to play when the day was busy and there was plenty to do. I'm trusted to do the same work as those around me and keep the work to an extremely high standard.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • The support never ends, at the beginning I was in need of a lot of support and still today I would have the odd question regarding the most efficient way of carrying out a task and they're always willing to take the time to show and demonstrate the way they would do it. This has helped me develop skills and become better at the job I've been doing.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Some days it's great, other days, not so much. There could of been more work to do at times, this is then spent doing business development work. This time can be spent developing the skills that will help you with your job. This way you can keep your day full but it doesn't always feel as productive as it maybe could.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given considerable amounts of responsibility with my placement. I've been on site dealing with clients, developing my own projects, working to deadlines negotiated by the firm and the client and producing solutions that have been up to standard and worthy of being sold to a client. It's great to be given responsibility partnered with support if anythings needed from those that may know a little more.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Doing a computer based degree and coming into a team that has a huge focus on efficiency has allowed me to develop a lot of skills that will help me to develop my final year project. I've taken part in courses provided by the firm, gained additional certificates and all of which has helped me improve my quality of work and knowledge around different subjects.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere was great, there was a good mix of people within our office and with the average age of the company being 26 no one was much older than I am. People are generally up for a chat if they aren't too busy, there's coffee machines on every floor dispensing free coffee for when you need up and away from the desk for a few minutes.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • It was well organised, I received a start date after my final interview and showed up to work on the date, the only thing that was a slight issue is that I didn't receive my laptop for up to a week after I started. This left me wondering what I could do, 100% of the work we do is on the computer but once that was resolved there wasn't any issues at all.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I was able to take part in different courses that I went on to gain certificates from - at the cost of the firm! Therefore I'd say they we're quite invested in allowing me to develop.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    Financial Bonus

    Working from home

    2/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • This company is not traditionally seen as a technology front-runner. While I have had a technical job the career path for technical people is not as clear as those that are accountants. That being said, I do see in the future this changing, times are changing and technology is becoming more and more important for a daily role. This will see jobs change and career paths being established as the group of those that are technically minded at the firm now are what I would see as being the first batch coming through therefore I potentially see great opportunities but as of right now, it is not as clear as I would like it to be.

    3/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • The social scene was great, the placement students had group chats and the colleagues also had one. There was plenty of opportunities to go out and socialise. They also had the first Friday after being paid each month where they would go out to a bar which was a great way to meet the rest of your team.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Belfast City Centre, if you come in with a budget, you can get around and eat on that budget. It depends what you would rather do with your money, I occassionally found myself getting the bus, roughly 15 miles to work, the expense was roughly £5 a day on travel and if I wanted a meal from somewhere for my lunch potentially another £5/6. I found it was easier to make my own food and bring it in where I would spend £5 on food from a supermarket and have it last me all week.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Again it's Belfast City, the nightlife is pretty good, there's plenty of places to go and plenty of things to do.

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There were, we've organised football, go-karting, cinema and food, the team wants to include as many as possible.
