    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • The insight programme was a brilliant experience and over the two weeks I was able to gain and develop a wide variety of skills from the sessions in week one and the school placement on week 2. Insight really gave me a balanced, well rounded view of teaching as a profession as well as highlighting the struggle of educational inequality in the UK and the STEM challenges we are facing.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • During Week One all the speakers and Teach First representatives were so supportive and full of praise for the participants, I really did feel valued and respected. In Week Two all the teachers at the Teach First partner school were also really supportive and this significantly helped to enhance the experience.

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • During the insight there was a huge array of support and advice. Both verbally during the programme but also there as excellent email communication before, during and after Insight. There was also an online resource called the Learning Hub which has all the information, support and guidance I needed which was great.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Insight significantly helped you to develop skills within their competencies but these skills are so transferable to my degree studies I was able to develop my leadership, communication and presentation skills vastly. During both weeks I was challenged and pushed outside my comfort zone from debating tasks to presenting a lesson all these activities helped to enhance both my employability and my general skills.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • The timetable that was set out was very clear, obvious and well structured. All transport and accommodation was provided and therefore this made the whole programme occur very smoothly. The first week prepared you for the second so the content was also well structured and this was really beneficial for maximising my experience.

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • One of the best things about insight was the wide variety of different people I got to meet. It was great to spend two weeks with like minded, highly motivated peers. Everyone on the programme both the staff and the participants were so friendly, kind and accommodating which helped to create a brilliant atmosphere throughout Insight.

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Teach First gave me the opportunity to work in groups during work one and present back to the cohort an then they gave us feedback on our answers and participation which was really great for my personal development. Furthermore, after teaching a lesson to a Year 10 class I then received feedback on my strengths and weaknesses which was really helpful.

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • After the programme I can 100 % say that I have a fantastic understanding of the Teach First mission and their motivations as a company. In addition having the chance to observe teachers in schools as well as experience teaching my own lesson meant I really got a great understanding of life as a teacher.

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • As I said before, the Teach First mission and the aim of teach first was made clear even before Insight started and my two weeks on the programme only enhanced my understanding of the culture of the company. It was great to hear the unity between Teach First employees and see how they all had the same goals.

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • At the end of the programme there is a chance to do an assessment and if you do well you get a place on their graduate scheme called a Leadership Development Pragramme so it has definitely given me an option for a future career but also informed me about a multitude of careers not just teaching.

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • All accommodation and travel was either organised for us or reimbursed after the programme. Accommodation for each week was nice enough and in locations close to the activities which was very beneficial, there were cooking facilities and even breakfast provided on one day. Furthermore, we were paid for our time on the programme.

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • There were multiple opportunities both during the programme and after the programme for networking. After the sessions there were drink receptions where employees of Teach First were in attendance. Throughout each day on the programme I was able to meet a wide variety of Teach First staff and ambassodors both those who worked in the office and those in the classroom,

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • As there were so many people on the programme it was difficult for everyone to form close relationships and network effectively but overall the opportunities to network were very beneficial and staff were very enthusiastic and happy to talk to you about teach first and their role in achieving the Teach First Mission.

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • There was some talk of extra curricular activities in schools that teachers could get involved in from camping trips to organising events. As well as a multitude of STEM based events. This involved both teachers and students taking part in research outside the classroom, it was great to hear about this range of opportunites.
