    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • The insight programme was a good experience, and two weeks where I developed my skills and competences. Insight was my first internship, and it was highly enjoyable, as I got to meet new students and make friends, as well as learning new teaching techniques. Overall, I found insight to be enjoyable.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • Teach First is very supportive throughout the process, and ease you in before the Insight programme through use of emails and phone calls that explain the process of the internship (details of structure, requirements etc). Additionally, the staff are lovely during the programme, and highly accommodating. I would do the programme again.

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • The Insight programme is highly guided, and the support during the first week is highly useful, and prepare you for the second week where you are placed in your school where you deliver an hour lesson to a class. The techniques I learnt is what I used with my own class.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Our basic skills were honed in and different guest speakers came to deliver information on their career, but also how Teach First is very helpful in developing your initial skills. However, I believe we needed more days training to be more successful within the second week, as I felt a bit out of my depth.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • The timetable was packed, and there was well timed, as it allowed us to learn but not feel rushed either. However, the second week timetable the school provided for me was sparse and I was free for a lot of it. Teach First could perhaps check through the timetables, and make sure we are kept occupied.

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • Insight atmosphere was lovely and friendly, and an environment where everyone felt comfortable and free to express themselves without fear of being judged. Both students and staff were accommodating, and it is an atmosphere that I would like to be in again. The highlight of the programme for me was the overall atmosphere.

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • 3/5

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • 3/5

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • The programme really gave a real view into a typical routine of a Teach First teacher, as we got to see both sides; both the company training provided, but also school expectations of the teachers. The company ethos was made clear to us, and it is expected that you adhere.

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • Students are paid £250 for each week, so that makes £500 for the whole of the Insight programme. Travel and accommodation are covered also. However, lunch is not provided, and I felt like if it had been my experience would have been improved, as it was something extra we had to consider.

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • 3/5

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • 3/5

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • Teach First Insight mainly focuses on the activities required of a teacher, and how to develop your competencies to allow you to thrive in the teaching environment. However, a life outside of work was not really mentioned to us, but it is shown to be a stressful leadership programme during the two weeks.

    3/5

  • 15. Would you recommend this insight to a friend?
  • Insight is something I would do again, and can definitely recommend it to my friends, as it allows you to develop your primary skills, and teaches you new techniques that you can apply to other areas of your life. Furthermore, I believe it is a great environment to socialise and network.
