I really enjoyed this placement. It's made me miles more confident as it was extremely sociable and the team that I worked within was very sociable. I learned so much over the last year in terms of the working world and the media / entertainment industry that I can carry through to any job. London was difficult to move to on my own and in the beginning I was tired a lot / at times it was extremely difficult to keep going, especially when the workload was heavy over winter when the days were shorter, however I feel very glad I've stuck it out because it's definitely such a rewarding experience!
I was very fortunate to have a very bubbly and sociable team who I managed to get on with really well. They would give me more work of higher responsibility levels as and when they saw appropriate when I had advanced and I was able to get a hand with anything I wasn't sure about.
Being co-managed in two very different styles for two very difficult jobs was often difficult because it was sometimes hard to know where I stood. One of my managers also changed half way through the year. Appraisal and criticism styles were different and it was sometimes quite hard to understand where I was at in terms of progression, however, that being said - the managers are very helpful when I needed them. Especially when dealing with personal issues and needing time off work which is very important!
It was quite all or nothing with some periods during very heavy campaigns being very busy and requiring longer hours. As we came into summer, there weren't any new releases so the office really quieted down allowing us to leave early some Fridays and get on with admin work and finish things up.
This isn't just a printing / tea and coffee job - this felt more like an actual junior level job. You are given different aspects of a campaign to manage through which you are completely responsible for which is very important. There was also supervision were necessary and lots of help.
This has definitely been a most rewarding year and not only do I feel like the regimented routine, drive and admin skills I learned this year will not only help me with my final year but will also help me as I go on wether that be as a freelancer or into a higher level job when I graduate. Definite life skills and confidence were learned from this role!
A really good, open plan and airy office and some lovely personalities to get along with. There is a definite sense of hierarchy when you start to get closer to the top, but most people will stop and chat or say hello / be helpful. Upbeat and cheery, fun and a nice place to come to work.
There was a good natural progression to this placement scheme with opportunities to evolve the role and make it your own where possible. You could opt to learn about different aspects of the job where you wanted to know more info. There were lots of reviews to help you with where you needed to improve.
I was able to go to a number of production masterclasses ad courses as well as screenings that will help me not only with my own degree but also with future careers. The managers were pretty easy going about my attending training courses during work hours. Although, it isn't really possible to move around - perhaps a week swap around would be good so that everyone can learn a little bit about others jobs.
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
I've realized that this personally isn't the job that I'd like to do going forward but there is definitely room to try other departments. A lot of the interns do come back and if they don't, they can be hired by other smaller agencies that work in the same field.
This was optional as to how much you wanted to get involved with intern parties etc, however the team had a lot of agency parties and it was very sociable.
Extremely expensive city to live in. My wage barely covered my lifestyle and I felt stretched a lot of the time.
Lots of bars but clubs become a bit harder during workdays because of transport.
Yes - he interns were very proactive in getting parties and sociable events going.
