    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Warner Bros Games allowed me to combine my field of study (finance) with my interest in gaming to work in a fun environment with 50+ other interns/apprentices of a similar age and mindset. This meant fun was never far from the workplace and meant that I could fully enjoy this placement year, more-so likely than most other placements.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • From the get go I have always felt like a valued member of the team, with independent tasks and responsibilities as well as managing my own integral 6 month project keeping me busy at all times. The structure is tight knit enough so that you always know what you're working towards.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • After a brief warming period, I was very much left to my own wits for much of this placement year. However, my team was always there to answer any questions I may have. The placement taught me how important it was to find the balance between asking the right and wrong questions, and when and not to bother my managers.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • During the first period of my time here, work was very heavily skewed towards the end of the week, with lighter periods beforehand. However, as soon as I got the chance to manage my own project, work was always at a good consistent level, albeit sometimes I have had to stay late.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • 90% of what I was handed over when I began my placement has now been completely replaced by the legacy I have left behind during my time here. In that sense, I would say I was given a very large amount of responsibility and the opportunity to leave something important behind.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Some of the most important skills I have learnt include productivity, management and workplace acumen. In terms of how much I have learnt on the job about finance/ my further field of study, what I have learnt is quite limited. Still, very good insight on how big corporations run business/finance.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • My immediate team as well as the wider WBIE Games team were always extremely welcoming and friendly. Across my time here I've managed to socialise with just about everyone outside of the workplace, in a mixture of fun social events or just going to the pub. Lunchtimes consisted of talking about games over a casual PS4/ Nintendo Switch game with like-minded people. 10/10.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Although the structure of work positions is always subject to change as departments and companies change, despite this the structure of the placement was very impressive. The placement program here is very large, and the offices are always crawling with interns and apprentices from all corners of the company. It shows that over the years they have definitely learnt what they were doing.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The company provided regular sessions on team building, presenting yourself and generally useful know-how about not only the office and work, but life after graduating too. Some of the sessions were somewhat dragging or redundant, but others were very useful. I would've liked to see more networking events for sure however.

    3/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Staff Sales/Staff Shop

    2/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • WBIE do not have a graduate scheme. However, there are many success stories of people in my position who have gone on to stay, although this is very dependent on timing, situation and if there are any positions available. The industry is quite tight knit though, so there's always space for a good reference to be handed to the right person!

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Very good social scene, with many other like-minded and similarly aged individuals. There were multiple social events throughout the year, and despite working in the non-central building it was never too hard to socialise. The one drawback is that due to central working location everyone lived all over London instead of in one place!

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Expensive. But it is London, so we can't really expect anything else! We definitely made do though, and most of the cohort of interns/ apprentices lived within an hour's tube of everyone else/ work (at least the social ones did! Would highly recommend living in London as oppose to commuting in for this placement)

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Depends on your cup of tea. London so very expensive but a very large variety. Most of us found ourselves in sports bars and pubs more-so than clubs throughout the year. No real big clubs in the immediate location (Holborn), but anywhere is reachable in London by tube/ bus. Get a travel card!

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • 3/5
