About You
Attended the Willis Tower Watson IRR Insight Evening in November 2018. It was a brilliant opportunity to speak to members of the Investment and HR teams. I would 100% recommend attending because they give useful insight into the company and the work which is undertaken and what it is like to be an intern/graduate.
As this was only a day insight placement it is hard to judge how i feel valued. However, members of staff give very honest and open opinions and are really helpful in answering any questions you have either about the company or about the specific role you are looking to apply for. They make the time to answer all your questions
In terms of guidance and support, I would say this is strong for this organisation. As this was a day it is hard to judge but they give you all the support/guidance to determine where you would be the best fit within the organisation. Also, they talk about the support that is in place for full-time employees.
Skills developed are narrow as this was only a day but it did improve my networking skills because you do get to network with the Investment and HR teams and answer questions (thus improving both networking and communication skils). However, the most important aspect is the information i received to help aid me in future job applications
The Company
It was a well structured insight day. A clear timetable of the events was shown at the beginning with a nice structure of both talks, networking sessions and breaks. The structure meant that attendees including myself got a well rounded picture of the organisation and what it would be like to work for WTW.
The atmosphere during the insight day was good. Like i have said before the people are willing to spend time with you and answer your questions and they are very open and honest about their experiences. The dress code was smart casual which helped create a nice atmosphere during the networking
In terms of training and development there wasnt any because this was a insight day. However, they did talk about as a full-time employee what training and development is available including support to take a professional qualification (CFA). They talk about the on the job training aswell which was helpful to learn more about.
This insight day gave great insight into what it would be like to be a full time employee within the company. You have presentations to understand what they do. To be honest it could have been improved with more exercises similar to what they did but overall great knowledge and skills needed was given.
They show you around the office and you speak to the Investment and HR teams. The first presentation is a presentation about WTW and the company culture. When talking to people you see the kind of culture that exists and it is a great experience to learn more about what it is like to work at WTW.
Very useful in determining my future career path. In the future I want to study the CFA and learn more about Investments (in particular pensions). So overall, it was a good experience to hear about the different teams and what a future career path in this sector/company would be like
Everything Else
Not needed
There were networking sessions during the day with members of the HR and Investment teams. These were for a good length of time and had just enough employees (could of been better with a couple more). However, overall really good and you could talk to them during the breaks aswell if you wanted too.
Talked about the activities that are available for full-time employees
I would absolutely recommend this insight event to a friend. It is a days experience that you should make the most of to ask questions about your job application , network with individuals in the HR and Investment team and understand more about your future career path in the industry you want to enter.
