12 Month Management Trainee Intern Review

I really enjoyed my placement year. I learnt about all aspects of the business from service to sales to looking at financial reports. Throughout my year I worked with lots of different people who were fantastic mentors to me throughout. I enjoyed the fast-paced environment that I worked in as it made the days fly by.

The people I worked with was by far the best part of my placement. They genuinely cared about my development throughout the year and wanted me to succeed. I feel like I have made a great network of people who will be there to mentor me throughout my future career and who really appreciated how hard I worked for them throughout the year.

My manager during my placement was the best manager I have ever had in any work I have done. She genuinely cared about my development and she was always positive throughout the year. Enterprise is a tough place to work as there is always something going on but she never let any of the stress get to her and it never impacted on her management style or her customer service. She really set a fantastic example.

I worked in 2 different branches so I experienced different levels of busy. Enterprise always has something going on so that you are never bored. They teach you all aspects of the business during the year so that you are able to find tasks for yourself without being constantly instructed by management. It can get busy at times but that makes the time fly even faster.

I was trusted with lots of different responsibilities throughout the year such as being in charge of monitoring sales, monitoring fuel expenditure as well as having the responsibility and trust to go out marketing with local body shops and dealerships by myself. You are treated like a key member of the team from the minute you start and throughout.

I have learnt so many skills throughout this year such as social skills, professional skills, organisational skills, selling skills and communication skills. I feel like I can work with a variety of people and hold a conversation with anyone in any environment. I feel like i am a lot better at managing myself and my time thanks to this year and all of these skills will benefit me in my future life and career.

My branch had the best atmosphere. We all got on so well and there was a real sense of team spirit and that we all wanted to work hard to make things easier for each other and to help one another succeed. The vibe in the branch was always positive and if someone was feeling low the others around them would help to lift their spirits.

I knew exactly what was expected from me from my start date. I had regular training at the company's head office to make sure I was on track with my development. My immediate management were always on hand to help if I had any questions and the entire placement year is structured around developing you and putting you in a strong position to come back after university and begin to progress quickly.

The company gave me a placement booklet on my first day which helped me track my development throughout the year. We had training at various points throughout the year at the head office as well as a lot of on the job training in my branch. You constantly receive feedback to help you improve and make the most of the year.

The company prides itself on progression so I genuinely feel that when I come back after university I will be able to get promoted to an assistant manager and then a branch manager beyond that in very little time. The company rewards hard work and individual performance so if you are the best person for the job you will get it, regardless of how long you have been with the company.

I knew a lot of other placement students in the company. Many I met during my initial training week who I am still in contact with and I also knew every other placement student in my area. It helped knowing all the other placement students as it was useful to compare your development with them and ask them if you had any issues.

Enterprise has branches all over the world and I was lucky enough to work at one in my home town just ten minutes away from home. Due to there being branches all over the country there are opportunities to move to both cheaper and more affluent areas depending on what you desire.

The area I worked in was my home town so I was able to spend my nights with my friends from home and from my school days. As I'm sure you can appreciate, everyone's hometown nightlife varies. In Eastbourne it is not amazing but it is nice to see familiar faces.

There were many out of work activities to participate in. There were lots of opportunities to participate in charity events. Personally, I played in two charity football matches, participated in the parade at Brighton pride and did a water sports team-working event for chestnut tree house in hove. There were so many opportunities being offered to you throughout the year that there is something for everyone.
