Business Compliance Review

I thoroughly enjoyed my placement year at Johnson & Johnson. I have enjoyed the level of responsibility I was given, developing numerous skills until I was able to work in the job role independently.

I felt like I was a valued part of the team, with a full workload and equal level of responsibility to colleagues. My team trusted me to complete tasks without their input and make independent decisions.

My manager was very supportive of me when I first joined the company, and I was given continued support throughout the entirety of my placement. I was given 1 to 1 help and guidance, including regular support meetings to assess my work/ goals etc.

I was always very busy, but not too much. I constantly had tasks to be doing or I could always assist colleagues in the team with their workload. Day to day work was never monotonous or boring and I found the days went quickly as I was working on varied jobs.

The level of responsibility I was given exceeded my expectations. I feel like I had a good level of responsibility within my team, where colleagues would approve my final work, but I was left to complete tasks independently. I was responsible for keeping on top of my own work e.g. deadlines, emails.

Throughout the year, I think I have certainly developed skills that I will use throughout the rest of my education and wider career.

The atmosphere was overall good, professional but also friendly. Everyone was polite and willing to help. People worked hard in the office, but it definitely was a more relaxed atmosphere compared to other offices I have worked in. It was nice to be able to get to know everyone in the office.

The overall placement was set up well, I knew the expectations from the outset and the induction was organised and thorough when I started the job. I felt the transition was smooth and I had a period of overlap with the previous student placement, so that I could learn from them which was valuable.

I feel like the company did not overly invest in personal training/ development. I feel as though I developed personally a lot through the general job role but I don't recall any experience that would relate to this. However, I don't feel like I missed out on training as I felt very comfortable in the job role.

I think the future employment prospects within the organization are very appealing and I will certainly be considering the various Graduate Schemes available. I have gained a wide variety of experience in different job roles and therefore I would also be interested in entry level jobs at the company after I finish University.

The social scene was good and we had a group chat with other placement students and graduates where various social events were organised throughout the year. I feel as though I got to know all the placement students and made good friends through my year spent at the company (both fellow placement students and colleagues).

The cost of living and socialising was pretty standard for a city centre location. As I lived in a shared student house, the cost of living was reasonable. The cost of going out and socialising varied depending on venue, but generally was reasonable and affordable.

The nightlife was overall very good, as Leeds is a student city this meant there was always events to attend and things going on. The centre of Leeds is always busy and there are plenty of options for things to do, whatever kind of night out or music you like.

There were numerous opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work, including social, charity and sporting events. We received regular emails informing us of the different activities we could get involved with, including a charity trip to Africa. Throughout the year, we did team building activities including socialising, visits and charity activities and also smaller activities organised within smaller departments.
