The Role
In terms of intellectual stimulation, this was an incredible experience. Work life balance can be skewed more to work depending on team and division, but once you overcome the lack of sleep this really is a tremendous opportunity. The opportunity for learning is unparalleled and there are a host of other young analysts in a similar position to you that makes it all the more enjoyable
You get to know your colleagues relatively well given the amount of time you spend with them, and provided you work hard and and are able to add value to your team, they will be grateful for your contributions. People particularly appreciate it if you are willing to go out of your way to offer assistance on a task.
Everyone is very busy with their own work, but the managers I have worked for have also held my learning as a high priority which has been great for my development. Even after rotating into a new team I have kept in regular contact with my previous manager and took him up on his offer to act as a mentor.
This can fluctuate, and I saw a significant difference between my first and second rotation. In my first rotation I was probably less busy than I would have liked, or at least would have got the best out of me. In my second I was bordering upon being too busy with some extremely long days. However as you get used to it you become better at striking a balance
this depends on your manager and also the size of the team, but I was given a lot of responsibility in my second rotation, being treated pretty much as a full time employee. With this responsibility comes the expectation that you will work hard and accurately and therefore additional pressure, but this also brings significant satisfaction and makes you feel more valued.
attention to detail and excel skills are life skills that I will carry with me into both my final year at Uni and my future career. The technical side of my work will also benefit me in the future as I look to pursue a career in finance. The training and exposure to some extremely intelligent people with ample experience will also benefit me greatly throughout my future career.
The Company
Generally the atmosphere was one of hard work and concentration, however people are always willing to spend 5/10 minutes talking you through difficult concepts. It is far from the alpha male dominated environment that many associate with an investment bank and there is a strong focus on cultivating an environment in which all employees feel comfortable
The internship programme was extremely well coordinated, boosted by the fact that when the summer interns are here you will tag along to many of the activities put on for them, and then once they are gone you join the graduate analysts for their meetings. We have monthly tasks to aid our understanding of how our individual sectors function and to make sure that we are learning different skills along the way.

this depends on which division you are in and of course performance. Hiring internally is always easier for the firm as you are more of a known entity and it is encouraged to speak to different people in order to find a role that will suit you. HR actively help you in finding such a role.
The Culture
Mixed, some people are more sociable than others and it depends year on year I'd imagine. Also slightly dependent on the team you end up in. The onus is on you to make friends and stimulate this aspect for yourself. There is a large contigent of young people at the firm though so the resources are there.

There are numerous sports teams and societies that you are able to get involved in and they are all very inclusive regardless of standard. There is also a choir and a vast range of societies that anyone can join. These societies often hire external speakers to visit the firm and give talks which are really interesting.
