    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • The internship started off great, especially getting to know my new colleagues and other members in the office. The work load was okay and tasks were very achievable. However as the months passed I found that I was running out of tasks had to keep prompting my colleagues to give me other work as I was getting bored doing the same two tasks day in and day out.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I was constantly reminded that I was a valued member of the team in my one-to-one meetings with my manager and in group discussion on the desk. I was always involved in the teams work, however I wasn't always made aware of what was happening that day, for example there were days where candidates were coming in for training and I was unaware of it.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My manager was very vocal in regards to how compliance works and the expectations. I was often critiqued on how I dealt with matters in order to help me become a better and/or knowledgeable compliance officer.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Some days I had a lot to do and other I was begging my colleagues for work to complete. I was often doing the same two task, chasing candidates for appraisals and reference chasing. The problem with that was most candidates didn't answer and I was constantly calling and leaving voice mails despite how unresponsive they were - it felt pointless but I guess it had to be done.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Working in compliance automatically puts you in a position of high responsibility. I had to do my own work as well as help my colleagues, which meant that I had to make sure everything was perfect in order to keep things running smoothly.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The office was calm at times and noisy at times, it really depended on what was happening that day. Most people were respectful and easy going which I liked, it was easy to start up a conversation with someone no matter their position.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Horrendous! Firstly I was supposed to start on a specific date however the desk wasn't set up in time so I had to start a week later. According to the interns pack I received I was supposed to be contacted every 2-3 three weeks, which did not happen. I was lead to believe that I could stay on, to find out two-three weeks before my departure that there wasn't a position available.

    2/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Well, my manager didn't want to invest too much into me until she knew I was staying on/continuing - which is understandable.
