    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I relatively enjoyed my first couple of months but the last month was a bit of a drag. During my time there, I found myself doing a lot of repetitive admin work, and I could essentially only rotate between 3 different tasks. My manager also started to take less notice of me and I felt less valued as time went on.

    3/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I didn’t feel especially valued by my colleagues. They would often thank me for work I did but I also thought I was left out of the loop of things which resulted me in doing work which seemed trivial. I feel I should have been trusted with more things as I felt I showed I was capable

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I believe I only had 2 meetings with my manager during 3 months. I feel this should have been more to see how I was getting on over time. I did to an extent feel like I could ask my manager questions if needed but they did always seem to be too busy for me. I feel overall that I was just brought in to do a job so once I was told how to do it I was often just left alone to get on with things.

    3/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I would say my balance of work was pretty good. I was rarely too busy and only sometimes I had too little work to do. Although, because i only had a couple of tasks i could do i often got bored doing the same thing over and over again and would have benefitted from some more variety.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I wasn’t given too much responsibility. I had to do a few tasks but none of them seemed like they were of great importance. My colleagues often did some of the same jobs as me which made my work sometimes feel pointless and for one task they had an alternative method to do the same thing which was better.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I do feel like I have learnt quite a lot about working in an office (like customer service and admin) as this was my first proper job and I will take this into my future career. I have also learnt about what working values are important to me and how I will look for these in future jobs

    4/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere was okay. Everyone seemed to get on well and they held fun sales days, however I could not get involved in these as I was doing admin. Also the kitchen was not used very much by people for lunch so it was often boring sitting in there alone.

    3/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The organisation of the internship was good. I was given logins and set up my computer fine. I was also given plenty of information about it like how long it was and annual leave etc. I also had someone from the taken acquisition team who rang me to ensure that everything was going smoothly.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The company did not invest in me at all in terms of personal training or development. I was not sent on any course or given talks about how to develop in the role. The internship itself was a chance for personal training and development but once i was there i didn’t receive anything else.

    2/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • 1/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I realised quite soon i do not want to progress in this business. For some I can see the appeal but for me my interests lie elsewhere. I am not particularly interested by the sales target driven environment and being stuck behind a phone at a desk most of the day

    1/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • No not with any other interns as I was the only one there. With my other colleagues I got on with them alright but they mostly have different interests to me. People often went for drinks after work on a friday but i finished 30mins before anyone else so was awkward for me to go

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Liverpool is a pretty cheap place if you go to the right places. Obviously there are more expensive places but you can just avoid them. Living is cheap too in comparison to other place like bristol where i have lived. The rent and bills are affordable even on minimum wage with a house share

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • the nightlife is pretty good in liverpool, there is a mix of more cheesy clubs and more housey/ techno places so there usually something for everyone. There are plenty of different types of bars too if you take the time to look such as a jazz bar on lark lane

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • yes there are plenty of things going on in liverpool, it’s a pretty young active city so you just have to do some research to find something you’re interested in. I played hockey for a local team and was also interested in volunteering at the local park where there is the palm house

    4/5
