    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Overall I enjoyed my time on placement. The staff I worked with were all very friendly and happy to help with whatever queries I had. Depending on which department you are in the work/life balance can either be very good or very poor. Thankfully I very rarely had to stay past 5 however a few of my friends on placement were required to work large amounts of overtime every week.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Despite only being a placement student I soon very much felt like part of the team. I was carrying out the same work as associates after only a few weeks and towards the end of my placement some days I was the only one in the office along with my SM so had to carry out alot of important work.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • The support provided is very good. Colleagues were always very happy to help and each employee has their own Career Coach to help guide them and talk about future goals and the feedback they have received. I was heavily supported and valued by all member sof my team from manager right up to Partner level.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Some days were very busy which was great as it made the day fly by. However some days the team just wasn't as busy and there wasn't as much to do. However when this happens you are encouraged to do online training modules through PwC's learning website. You naturally get busier and more work to do the longer you have been on placement as your knowledge and skill set grows.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given a large number of big tasks which required communicating with clients on a daily basis. Managers will give you as much responsibility as they think you can handle - or sometimes a bit more to see if you're capable of it, you'll be treated just like another member of staff.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I haven't been back to uni to apply them yet but my time management skills, organisational skills, and communication skills have all greatly increased. I know feel more confident working things out for myself and trusting my instinct. I've also learned its ok to get some things wrong and learn from your mistakes.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • A large number of people work in my office so the atmosphere is always pretty nice. Can go grab a coffee from the large number of free machines whenever you want and stop and have a 5 min chat with people you bump into that you maybe haven't seen in a few days. People work very hard but also take time to socialise during working hours too.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Student recruitment team do a great job. Always on hand if you have any queries and also organise a big group project that all PwC placement students have to do every year. Placement students are a big part of what PwC do so teams/managers are used to having them around.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • PwC have an online learning portal and you are encouraged to do training modules in your spare time. They give you time to work on your placement group project and also facilitate work you have to do for uni such as providing meeting rooms for visiting uni placement staff. I know if I had wanted to try something different for a few weeks or move around the firm a little my managers would have supported it completely.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Company Parties/Events

    Staff Sales/Staff Shop

    Above 25 days holiday

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • PwC don't pay as much as the other big professional services firms but depending which department you are in the opportunity for career progression up through the ranks is pretty good. Everyone has a career coach who invests in you and helps you get to where you want and support you as you move up the firm.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Student recruitment team held the odd party for us (around Christmas time etc). The firm runs a social event on the first friday of every month after work which is a good chance to meet people and have some fun. Also have an annual dinner and teams regularly go out for lunch and have team socials etc

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Pretty cheap, transport can be expensive at times but rent and things like food were pretty standard. The amount I earned was easily enough for me to live on and also to be able to save a little to help me get through final year when I'm back to student poverty.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • it's alright. Nothing special but there is something for everyone.

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • PwC run a wide range of social networks that you can get involved in. From groups that meet up to play football together to online based groups about knitting there is alot to get involved in. They also run various religious networks which meet regularly such as PwC Christians network
