    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Working at Hays has been an excellent experience and has allowed me to gain useful business and commercial knowledge, ready to add to my CV and for future employment. The company culture and work environment has been fantastic, and I was welcomed to the Office very nicely when I first joined.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I never felt like just an Intern at Hays, everyone treats you like a true Recruitment Consultant, which was one of the best aspects and you could really get into the work and be valued for your contribution. You are able to run your own desk and feel the reward for doing so, with other consultants/managers congratulating you on any successes.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • From the day I started at Hays, the support was great and the training is second to none. The training consists of learning the different processes you go through as a consultant, from Business Development to Sourcing Candidates, and you are invited to either London or Birmingham for extensive training with the Hays Experts.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Very, very busy. Recruitment is so fast paced, on my desk and dealing with the Prison Service, sourcing candidates and interviewing was the main aspect for me. There are lots of phone calls to candidates and clients, emails, arranging interviews, conducting interviews and organising compliance. If you are looking for a dynamic role, with lots going on, then an internship at Hays would suit you very well.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given lots of responsibility as I was entrusted with the interview process and sourcing the best candidates for each role we had on offer. You are treated like a Recruitment Consultant running your own desk, and this is a major responsibility. This internship is not just making teas and coffees, you are thrown right in and Hays will expect you to contribute to their earnings.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Without a doubt, Hays have given me skills for life. I was close to not going on a Placement Year, however, I 100% made the right choice. I have/will come out of Hays with great knowledge both commercially and business orientated. The training has been excellent, and the fast paced nature of the role will help me with my degree and being in a routine to knuckle down with my dissertation.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere was always busy and positive! There was a great team spirit and lots of incentives, if we hit certain targets we would all go out and celebrate these, whether that was just at a Restaurant or bowling for example. I was part of the Construction and Property Team, and this was fantastic with great team energy.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The Internship Programme at Hays is voted one of the best in the UK and is highly regarded by many Universities. My experience was brilliant and the set up in regards to training and hitting the ground running straight away was really good. Hays train you well and make sure that you an Expert in your specific field.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Hays invest a lot of money into interns and ensuring that they are ready for the life of a Recruitment Consultant. They invested in me by sending me off to the Birmingham Office for 3 days of extensive training, where you learned from experts and how to sell Hays as a business and dealing with clients and candidates.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Financial Bonus

    Company Parties/Events

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Hays would definitely be an option for me after Uni, I am looking to find a good Grad Scheme, but I know that Hays will be there if I am looking for work straight away after I finish. You are also fast tracked into a higher role if you do well as an Intern, so this would be a good offer to take.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There was a very good social scene at Hays, and we were able to meet fellow interns at events such as the Hays Christmas Party and visiting other offices as well. We were able to discuss how each of us were getting on and how the internship was going. The social side of things at Hays was one of the most enjoyable aspects of the placement.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • The cost was absolutely fine, I am fortunate enough to be living at home during my placement with parents, where the cost of living is different compared to some interns. In the area I am though, the cost of living isn't bad at all, and the social side is also very good.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • The nightlife wasn't the greatest aspect, however certainly wasn't the worst at all. There were plenty of bars and pubs that we went to on Fridays nights, however, my office wasn't in a city so it was slightly different. I have made mates for life here and the social side was great due to this.

    2/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Flex at Hays enabled me to still continue with the sports that I am involved with outside of work. This meant that I could alter my hours and start earlier in order to make training sessions etc. The flexibility could be slightly better in my opinion, but the nature of the role requires you to work long hours, but when Flex was introduced this improved the work life balance a lot.
