    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Amazing experience. We were given real live deal work to do from day 1 and made to feel like a valued member of the team. The networking events that were arranged for the intern class were also a grate way to meet new people and share our experiences of the internship so far.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • We were fully integrated into the team right from the beginning. I never felt like the 'coffee boy'. We were given access to all members of the team, right from senior MD's to the 1st year analysts. There were some team drinks that occurred half way through our internship, which we were invited too as well.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I was sat next to my buddy, who was always happy to answer any questions that i had. Our line manager also made the effort to talk to us and find out how we were enjoying the internship and whether there were any deals that we would like to work on. There was a genuine desire to make sure that we learnt as much as we could from the internship and have the best possible experience.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Typical hours were 8am - 8:30pm ish. Only went in on one weekend. We rarely had a day where there was nothing to and always could go and ask for more work if there was (rarely) nothing to do!

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Assigned specific tasks by members of the team and then very much left to go on and get on with it. Our work was of course all checked, but I felt like we were given a large degree of responsibility.

    3/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • 4/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere was obviously never going to be lively and buzzing like on a trading floor, but there was a degree of excitement and real desire to produce good quality work to a high standard. When a big project came in the mood definitely picked up, but it was never dull.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Networking events for interns every other friday. Speaker series where we got to listen to senior leaders in the bank talk. Some IT issues to begin with and during the internship, but there was not much that could be done about this.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Invested very heavily. Strong desire for us to both learn and really understand the tasks and material we were given.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    Financial Bonus

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Offered a job for summer 2012 start

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Still in contact with a number of the interns. Had a couple of fun nights out with them and we generally all got on very well.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Obviously expensive as it was central london, but this was to be expected

    2/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Nightlife is not really the purpose of the area (st. Pauls) or the internship

    2/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • We spent a day volunteering at a local primary school, which was very rewarding.
