    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I really enjoyed my placement, not only because the job was great but also because the people I worked with in my team were amazing and so were the other interns.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Being given big tasks/projects that had consequences if not done properly/correctly made me feel very valued by my team, as it made me feel trusted and that they had faith and trust in me to do the task (even though i knew they would still check my work).

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I was given a lot of support and guidance not only by my task manager with the day to day tasks I would have to complete, but also by my early professionals manager (EPM) with regards to career paths and seeking out oppertunities in other areas of the business if I wanted to.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • How busy I was on a daily basis varied, one because of the type of role I had (in finance) there were times during month end when I would be busier, but that didn't mean I wasn't busy when it wasn't month end. It all depended on what projects I had going on at the time.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given a lot of responsibility during my placement, with uploading amounts onto ledgers and submitting certain stuff, and although it was checked by someone else on the team it felt good having the chance to learn and make mistakes myself

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The skills developed will help me greatly with my degree as next year for one of my third year modules I have chosen is taxation, which is the area I worked in this year.

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The general atmosphere in my office was great, although there would be times when everyone was busy and all you could hear was typing, there were frequent times of laughter among the team

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The overall work placement was very well organized, from induction - where you met a couple of the interns you'd be placed with, to careers academy everything was well organised

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The company has a platform called YourLearning where you could search and learn near about anything you wanted to, related to the business unit you worked in or other areas of the business.

  • Future prospects of working with this company would have been more appaling if they offered graduate jobs in the sector I want to work in.

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There f[p;'/ngst the interns, it helped that we were all just such a lovely bunch so it was easy for everyone to get along

  • The cost of living, considering the amount I was paid, was a little high, the cost of socializing wasn't too bad though

  • I'm not a noghtlife person so I wouldn't really know

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There were many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work, some interns did volleyball once a week with other IBMers and I did zumba with a few girls.
