    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • I really enjoyed the insight. It had a wide variety of sessions, including two full days of shadowing in various locations which was fantastic. Moreover, everyone at BP was extremely friendly and welcoming and happy to answer any questions. We were also given an overview of the recruitment process which is always helpful

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • I felt that my time was very valued, especially during the shadowing days. In shadowing, employees always asked me if I was benefiting and wanted feedback from me. Also, they ensured that I understood the concepts (engineering) and took the time to explain them if I said I wasnt very sure about them.

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • I think I wouldve benefitted from a bit more guidance, especially in terms of logistical aspects. We were given a location for our shadowing during the insight, not before, and werent told how to get there. Some locations were over an hour commute and it wouldve been helpful to provide this information before the insight.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I think my skills developed tremendously, especially my technical understanding of the oil and gas industry. I didnt know much about the industry and I know understand more about it. In terms of my degree, it will definitely be beneficial as I shadowed electrical engineers so I can apply the information I learned in my projects.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • It was well structured as sessions were varied and engaging. I really enjoyed the variety from panels to technical talks to motivational talks. However, there were breaks between every session that I felt were a bit unnecessary. It wouldve been helpful if we had been given an agenda as to how the day will run.

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • The general atmosphere was great. It was a friendly, welcoming environment. The sunbury campus is amazing! I went for a team lunch during one of my shadowing days and each employee in the team introduced them self to me and took the time to know more about me and my interests, etc. which was great and reflective of the company and its values.

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I felt that BP really invested in our development. They invited CEO Priya Lakhani to give a motivational talk which I thought was fantastic. Moreover, they also invited senior members of the business to speak to us about career progression and how we can start from now and tips that can be implemented straight away which was very helpful.

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • It really helped me as I got the chance to shadow two different teams and this allowed me to reflect on the type of work each team does and decide on my preference for summer internships next year. Moreover, I also got to speak to many employees to understand what their role is on a day-to-day basis.

    5/5

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • The insight was very helpful in the sense that it allowed me to speak to many employees and meet employees from business resource groups (like uni societies) and understand their motivations to join and how they impact the company community. This was a very valuable opportunity and it showed me that everyone at BP really believes in the values.

    5/5

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • The content was very valuable as the engineers I was shadowing explained every project to me and were very keen on answering any questions I had, whether technical or non technical (e.g. about work-life balance, etc). This was great as it allowed me to understand if I wanted to pursue a career in this field or potentially apply to something else.

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • BP paid all students on the insight programme. The are also reimbursing students for trains and ubers to and from all the sites as they were far from the hotel. BP also paid for the hotel stay at the Teddington. They also provided us with dinner vouchers for all the nights we didnt have a company dinner, which was very generous.

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • There were many opportunities to meet other employees. We had a different group of employees come to every lunch and we were encouraged to ask them about their job roles and their interests outside their day-to-day roles. This was the best way to really find out more about the company (through the employees opinions)

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • Networking opportunities were very good. We had a networking dinner at the hotel with the BP recruitment team as well as several BP grad employees at different stages of the grad programme. This allowed me to understand more about the company from the perspective of someone who recently joined, which was extremely helpful.

    5/5

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • Around 2 members from each business resource group came and introduced themselves in one of the sessions then joined us for lunch where we were able to go ask any BRG member any questions about how we can get involved and what kind of events they organise. They were happy to talk to us about their groups and initiatives.

    5/5

  • 15. Would you recommend this insight to a friend?
  • Yes! The insight was a great way to understand more about the company and the shadowing opportunity that BP offers is very rare amongst other insight weeks (2 full days of shadowing). BP also really invested in the students and their development (financially and personally). The insight was also great to understand how your degree can be suitable in BP.
