    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • I found the insight week incredibly fun. The week was filled with genuinely interesting presentations which touched on just enough of the corporate aspects to allow an understanding without boring you to death. The people I met were fantastic and the various tasks we were given were great fun to get involved with.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • I felt very valued during my time at JP Morgan. Throughout the week we were reminded that we were the future talent and that they were just as interested in us as we were in working for them. You are encouraged to showcase your skills and be yourself at all times.

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • Plenty of guidance and support was available during the insight. Members of staff always had an answer for questions which were given and we were constantly reminded that there is no such thing as a stupid question. This was especially important as there were a large number of people who weren't from technology backgrounds attending the technology week.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The information I received about the role was super helpful in helping me make a decision about working for JP Morgan in the future. The various presentation and workshops were also very useful for getting out of your comfort zone and practicing your soft skills in a relaxed environment, so I think these will be invaluable to me in my degree studies and beyond.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • The insight was reasonably structured, it looked like a lot on paper but it was very easy going and relaxed compared to another banking spring week I attended. My only gripe is 4/5 days we were asked to arrive for a certain time and didn't really get started until an hour or so later.

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • Super friendly, engaging, interesting. Everyone was happy to be there and was genuinely interested in getting to know other people. The week was filled fun activities and presentations which really outlined what the culture at the company is like which is one of the most important things to consider before working anywhere.

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • As it was only a week at the company there was only so much time that could be spend on us individually. However, there were two work shadowing sessions (each one lasting 2 hours) which provided a quality insight into what working at JP Morgan was like and the sort of projects you might be involved with.

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • As mentioned above, there were also two networking sessions which were very insightful. Current members of staff in a range of positions and seniority were very helpful in outlining what the hours are like, how friendly people are, how to cope with difficulty, as well as the promotional structure within the company.

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • The insight was invaluable. To really understand JP Morgan and where they are at now you need to get in the offices, meet the people, and ask the questions. The company culture I found there was not from one person, but a recurring theme through every employee I met regardless of their position in the company.

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • The week was the decision making process I needed to confirm that a job at JP Morgan would be an excellent step to take in my career. All of my queries were answered (most without me asking) and I will absolutely be applying for a summer internship and then for a graduate position (hopefully).

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • Food was provided and as I live in Glasgow I cycled to the office so there was no need for travel reimbursement. Many of the other attendees were reimbursed very nicely, with the company paying for their return flights from various cities across Europe. These attendees were also put up in a hotel for free.

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • As mentioned above there were three networking opportunities which gave us the opportunity to meet a range of people in various roles within the company. The last of these sessions was a bit rushed and 3 was a bit overkill in my opinion but overall they were still enjoyable to attend.

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • The networking opportunities were very relaxed and everyone was very friendly. We went bowling on the first evening which was great as everyone was pretty terrible so it was obvious that you can impress at all times which everyone was sure you should be doing at all times during the week however I didn't feel this was the case.

    5/5

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • There were a few groups you can get involved in however it seems to be part of a company mission to engage employees in removing bias towards other employees. I'm not saying this is a bad thing, however in terms of other social groups outside of work there wasn't an awful lot.

    4/5

  • 15. Would you recommend this insight to a friend?
  • Absolutely. If you want to gain a real insight as to what working for JP Morgan in the Technology department is like then I definitely recommend attending. You will meet friendly, interesting and intelligent people who are all interested in working for JP too. My favourite aspect of the week was understanding the company culture, and noticing how much employees enjoyed working on the problems they were facing.
