    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • very enjoyable experience. All employees were very friendly and happy to share their experiences and knowledge. We also had the opportunity to shadow different people which was great to explore different parts of the business.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • I felt very valued. It was very clear that the recruitment team spent a lot of time and effort planning the programme and we had a variety of sessions and workshops where we could do practical activities relevant to technology (unique to JP Morgan compared to other insight weeks).

    5/5

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • Alot of guidance. People from the technology division were always available to answer questions. During the coding challenges we were given, we were assigned a mentor (who works in technology) to help us and guide us along the way which was extremely useful.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The skills I developed include a deeper understanding of how software is built as well as a familiarisation with a new programming language Ive never used before. This will definitely be beneficial for my computing modules next year.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • The first 2 days were mostly sessions where we were given talks and told about the company and how its operated, etc. The final couple of days were almost purely activity based which was fantastic! We had a RoboWar competition and then more conventional programming activities to complete.

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • Very friendly!! The recruitment team made it very relaxe d and tried to make us not feel intimidated. At times it felt a bit too relaxed, almost unorganised. However, for the most part, they took the time to speak to us individually and learn our names and interests, etc.

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • We had a few networking events as well as a personal branding session. No new information was really covered in that session but individual employees had valuable advice to offer in terms of personal development and career choices, etc. We had coding challenges where mentors helped us individually and as small teams in order to improve our personal skills.

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • Extremely helpful! Shadowing different employees allowed me to ask about work-life balance and understand what the work environment is like. I also understood more about the group-work dynamic within the firm and the style by which the division operates. We were also given information about the graduate programme in a session to explain life as an graduate employee in the firm.

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • The insight was a good way to see if people within the company actually embody the values written on the website, etc. I realised that they do. Everyone works extremely hard but its also a very collaborative environment. Integrity is also key within the firm and they emphasised that through sessions and shadowing.

    5/5

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • Very helpful. The content showed a variety of roles that you can do within the firm to allow us to choose what suits us most. They also had a recruitment member from outside of technology for people interested in other divisions such as IBD, etc. We were encouraged to listen to different people and explore divisions within technology that we didnt really consider before.

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • The hotel and transportation were paid for by the firm (booking was done on their own portal and paid for by them in the first place so no reimbursement process was needed). It was very well organised as we received an email to make an account with a specific company and arrange our bookings through them.

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • Yes. We had the opportunity to network with employees in a casual networking dinner. We also had Senior networking lunch with EDs and MDs. It was great to hear from graduates as well as EDs and MDs in order to understand how different people view the firm and how promotion works.

    5/5

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • The networking opportunities were generally good. However, it was difficult to speak to many people in the time given. As for the dinner, it was done after a very long day and students as well as employees were very tired so it wasnt as useful as it couldve potentially been.

    3/5

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • Yes! All graduates need to take part in a project in their first year to help a charity organisation (by building them a website, internal system, etc). JP Morgan also sponsors hackathons, has a code for good event and many other events where employees volunteer. We had a session about it to tell us about the opportunities available.

    5/5

  • 15. Would you recommend this insight to a friend?
  • Yes! My insight week was in bournemouth and the overall experience was great. I got to explore the city, make new friends, speak to people in the firm and learn a lot of new skills and information about the industry and how technology is part of it. The recruitment team made sure the entire week was varied and informative and managed to sell JP Morgan very well.
