    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • It was a very interactive 2 day event and quite different to what I expected. I thought it would be very serious, with the company noting down our every move to consider whether to fast track us to the summer vacation scheme. But actually no one was monitoring us in that way. It was a fun 2 days, working with the other students to complete activities like a Tax business game. Over the course of the 2 days we had to create a vlog for deloitte; the winning video would go up on their social media. On the first day there were a lot of talks from various people in the firm, including a Q&A panel. I think there were a few too many talks, it was getting difficult to focus. Overall it was a really great experience and I would highly recommend. One thing to take note is what division the spring week is focused on. It says in the description that its all service lines, but actually depending on the location it can be Tax/ technology etc. So a lot of the talks were based on Tax for the Reading office which didn't appeal to most of us on the spring week.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • very valued, we networked with various employees including Associate directors and spent a lot of time with them. We had panel of judges to watch out presenations for the Tax Business game and they gave us valuable advice on how to improve our presentation skills. It was very helpful in that regard.

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • Very well guided, everyone was happy to answer our questions and even encouraged us to keep asking and to be "curious" (a very important key word at Deloitte that came up a lot). The next steps were well explained and they told us how we could get fast tracked (but this meant we could only get fast tracked to the interview stage for tax).

    5/5

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • A lot of the spring week was dedicated to Tax which most of us had no knwoledge of. Felt that was a bit of a downer since most of us are interested in other service lines and I just felt like it was a bit of a waste to focus on Tax so much.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • quite well structured, there were different events planned for each day which gave a very good insight into tax. there was also a separate talk give nby [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyPlacement Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions] which was about body language and speech, and how each affects how we're seen and the effectiveness of our message. So it was a very well rounded event with games and interactive activities which we all really enjoyed.

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • very casual and welcoming. Everyone was extremely kind and helpful, willing to answer all our questions. The first fee activities on the 1st day were a bit dull since we were talked to a lot but other than that it was very fun. We worked on our vlogs in our spare time.

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • they invested a lot. We were all provided with pur own rooms at a nearby hotel which was very luxurious. We also had a networking dinner with many employees, also in attendance were Associate directors who took time out of their busy schedules to network with us. You could tell they pent time planning the events.

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • It helped a lot since we were able to network with employees and asked them about the work life balance and other factors when working at Deloitte they gave very honest responses working as a full-time graduate but also weren't working on the summer vacation schemes and how that help prepare them for career at the firm. It also highlighted the culture at the firm and career progression.

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • Through network with employees we were able to ask them about how it was working with other employees and the overall culture in the firm. We were told there wasn't a significant hierarchy system and that everyone at the firm was valued, including graduates who would usually be seen as the bottom of the fuood chain.

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • Since the Spring into Deloitte scheme at the Reading office was tax focused I found the content of the day wasn't as useful as it could've been since they were mainly talks and informational activities based around tax. I feel the time would've been better spent on the program would be more beneficial if we were able to find out about all the divisions to help narrow out choices down

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • Since it is only a spring week there was no payments however we were fully reimbursed for all our travel costs and were provided with food and drink from today including dinner on the evening of the first day and breakfast at the hotel the following morning. You are provided with a reimbursement form at the end of the spring week.

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • As I mentioned previously there was a lot of networking going on with emplyees and recent graduates at the company, however these were mainly employees working within the tax divisions. During the networking dinner we were able to network with an associate director and even one of the partners from the company.

    5/5

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • Wasn't as useful since all of the people we network with were from tax divisions we started to run out of questions to ask, especially since a lot of us aren't interested in tax. I think it would've been better if we were able to network with people from other divisions.

    2/5

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • We found out that there are a lot of volunteering opportunities that Deloitte themselves encourage and even give time off for the employees to get involved in. I really like this about the firm as it says a lot about their values and culture. I was especially impressed by their 1 million futures campaign

    3/5

  • 15. Would you recommend this insight to a friend?
  • I would definitely recommend this insight to a friend however I would make sure that they checked what division the office they were doing the program at was focused on. Deloitte was very unclear when I applied for the spring week, even in the email it said it would be covering all service lines into all we actually attended the event realised it was taxed focused. Nevertheless it's a very important insight to have as you find out a lot about the lights and did you provide an offer a lot of support especially comes to applying to do in future for summer vacation
