The Role
It has been a really enjoyable placement year. Not only have I have learnt a lot, the work and the environment were great.
Each member of the company was so supportive. They want you to develop, and everyone is willing to answer your questions.
My manager was excellent! Weekly meetings made sure that I could raise anything I wanted to discuss, which meant that I felt really supported during the placement.
I was always busy, even when you run out of allocated tasks there were always things to be done.
I was given a lot of responsibility. I had several customers that I was responsible for, and had to make sure that their issues were dealt with in a timely matter and that they were happy with what we had done.
The main technical skills I learnt were with C# and SQL (Microsoft and Oracle), however a lot were product specific. I had a little exposure to VB and html as well. In terms of non-technical, I have gained confidence whilst interacting with customers professionally. All the graduates and students were given training and this program was fantastic.
The Company
There are always people talking to customers or through issues they are facing with each other. It is a great atmosphere where you are able to just ask someone near you questions, as well as being connected to all of the other project groups via. Teams.
The admin team were great. If I had any questions before or during the placement they were always available to ask, as well as pre-empting some questions.
The company are very interested in your training and development. They train you for 12 weeks before you go into the main office full time, and whenever there is a chance to develop your skills they take it, with learning lunches, site visits and general answering of your questions.

A lot of employees started out as a placement students, and there are chances to progress within the company.
The Culture
The social scene was good, I went to Badminton every week with a few colleagues, as well as into Crawley some evenings. You could also go to the pub on a Friday which was common. They also had social evenings whilst we were settling in, and a Christmas party in Croydon.
I live about 10 minutes from work, and it works very well. The cost of living is not too high, although I mainly went places at the weekend as Brighton and London are so close and they are better for the social aspect.
It's okay, Brighton is the major hub, but Crawley is not too bad.
A lot, see above.
