    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • The insight was a very enjoyable experience. The atmosphere was relaxed and all the activities well-thought-out, with a great exposure to women and not only from all the service lines. There was emphasis on both the more technical aspects of their work but also on their persoanl life and their work-life balance, giving a great overview of what the life of an EY employee looks like.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • They really made me feel valued at all times. Everybody was open to questions and open to share their experiences with EY and everybody was treated in the same way, no matter of gender, race or ethnicity. Their inclusive culture stood out from day 1. Moreover, they invested in us by making sure we get the best accommodation, very close to where the actual activities took place. On day 1, we also had a very fun social.

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • Whatever questions I had, it was promptly answered and people were very willing to share their experience with us. I got a better understanding of the service lines because everybody was very specific in their answers, helping us understand what the opportunities in the industry are and how this impacted their career.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I gained some presentation skills through the activities we got engaged in and my networking skills have definitely been improves through socialising with people within the company, as well as my other peers from the programme. I also gained an outstanding amount of information about what EY does taking into account the short time frame.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • We had a programme sent before the beginning of the programme and the organisers always stuck to the schedule. It could be seen that EY has experience with such events as all the organisational aspects were very well taken care of, from the talks and activities we were involved in to the accommodation and social activities we were offered.

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • Everyone was very relaxed and I could actually feel that employees at EY are enjoying their time here. It was very convincing and sounded truly genuine.

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The time was a bit of a limiting factor, as I think it is hard to invest heavily in personal training and development in just two days. Most of the activities were talks held by EY employees, so we were not actively involved at all times, but at the end we could always ask questions.

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • The insight mostly consisted of talk given by the employees, each detailing in their professional and personal experiences with EY, so we got introduced to what is like working at the company. However, I think I would have been even more informed if I also had the chance to work shadow for half a day, to get some direct exposure.

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • Even from the beginning it was very clear to me that EY is a very friendly company, that values diversity and inclusiveness. The fact that the employees have not only talked about their jobs, but also about their background and their personal interests helped me understand what type of people fit into EY’s culture.

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • Taking into account that it only lasted for two days, the amount of information they delivered is quite impressive. We got exposed mainly to the assurance and tax service lines, understanding the difference between the two sectors available in each of them (FS and UKI). There were also opportunities to network with people from PAS and from the networks and charities associated with EY.

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • They were very generous with their reimbursement policy. Moreover, the accommodation received was very good, very close to the venue where all the events were taking place and offering breakfast. Travel-wise they sent an email two weeks ago or so, detailing the procedures we need to follow to be reimbursed.

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • Basically every activity was an opportunity for networking. With every new activity we got introduced to new people, willing to share their professional and personal experiences with us. Moreover, we were assigned a mentor at every table, who would provide even more information about the life and work at EY.

    5/5

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • The networking opportunities were very insightful, managing to give us quite a clear idea of what EY is doing and what its values are. At the end of the first day, we also took part in a social event, where we had the opportunity to chat with the employees in a slightly more informal setting.

    4/5

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • The beginning of the second day mainly focused on the opportunities EY employees have that are not necessarily connected to their work, such as the networks that they can join. There was particular emphasis on EY Foundations, a charity that works with young people in the UK to help them realise their career ambitions.

    5/5

  • 15. Would you recommend this insight to a friend?
  • I would highly recommend this insight to a friend as it was a very relaxed and informative experience. In just two days we got exposed to a lot of new information, but without feeling overwhelmed. I think this is because they delivered it in a friendly way and I was always able to ask questions without feeling shy about it.
