    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • I really enjoyed the savills insight programme. It was well planned and the activities were very informative, giving me both an insight to the culture and the work that savills does. It gave me an insight into the different parts of the company and what they did, and to see how different parts of the business come together.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • I felt very valued during my time at the company. This is because my mentor gave me work which kept me busy the whole time. I felt that my work was important to the firm. Additionally my mentor arranged a number of meetings with directors of the team that I did work experience in.

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • My mentor gave me large amounts of support during the insight. He showed me different parts of the job that he and his team did each day. Additionally he showed me around the office and showed me how to use the IT software. Additionally he answered all my questions about building surveying and what working for savills was about.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The skills i developed and the knowledge i received has already assisted me in my degree. This is because one of my coursework investigation involved management within companies within the construction industry. Having met with one of the directors in the firm, i asked them how they motivate people in savills, they gave me an answer which i have adapted for my coursework. Additionally shaddowing my mentor on site i gained an understanding of how to act on site, and what to look for.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • The insight programme was very well structured. The schedule was published in advance which allowed me to work out my plans for the week. Additionally different talks were scheduled which allowed me to see the different parts of savills. The insight programme was well scheduled as the talks were either at the beginning or end of the day, this allowed me to experience a real day in the office, and allowed me to go onto site almost every day.

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • The atmosphere was very good during the insight programme, my mentor was very good, and showed me around different parts of the firm. Everyone I spoke to at the firm from director to graduate was very friendly and seemed to really enjoy their work at savills. Whilst the atmosphere was productive it was also relaxed and anyone in the team was always very happy to help with any questions that I had.

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The company invested in me as they gave me a mentor, this allowed me to ask any questions I had both about the firm and the work that they did. Additionally meetings were arranged with directors who took a personal interest in each of us, they also gave us advice for the future as how to reach such positions as they have. Additionally there were presentations on APC and on how to write a cv which will help me in the future.

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • The insight programme showed me what position graduates have in the firm and showed me what a high level of responsibility they have in the firm. Additionally the insight programme showed me what the type of work I would receive when working with the company. It also showed me that whilst you are working you can also enjoy the work that you do.

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • The insight programme helped me understand the culture in the company, whether it was the drinks organised by savills or the chats in the office. It showed me that even though people work hard in the company they can still enjoy there job and enjoy going to work every day.

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • Although I am on a building surveying course I did not realise that there were teams within savills specilising in the different parts of building surveying. This helped me realise my future career path as it showed that if i were offered a graduate position i would be able to try out each team on a rotation and then pick which team i preferred.
