    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • I really learnt a lot about finance and about the firm in general. The insight was truly insightful and gave me a real taste of what GS is like. I was in the GIR division and I loved how varied the insight was and that we were particpating to a real GS project that would be published in the future. It was really enjoyable, despite competition to convert to a summer analyst and met some lovely people.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • Initially it was quite daunting having to meet with analysts and set up 'catch ups' but people were generally very friendly and willing to help. Even if they can't they are willing to refer you and you feel like they truly care about yoou by the end of the spring programme.

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • People are always willing to help you no matter. I was lost on a trading floor and asked for directions and they helped me immediately. The culture at GS of collaboration and spreading of ideas was something foreign to me, but something I began to enjoy and be a part of.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I study economic history so some of the skills I learnt are applicable such as scanning through reports to find the most important data and how to convey a clear and concise argument. It was helpful in reinforcing these general skills which I will take with me.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • Very well organised with a clear programme for each day and variety. From teach in on different sectors to round tables with vice and managing presidents and project work and desk time and networking events. There are a plethora of things to do and it was very clearly structured.

    5/5

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • The atmosphere was great, everyone is very friendly and smart. I will admit that in the second week people were less willing and more competitive but its only natural as it comes to the assessment part of the week. Other than that the vibe was pretty good.

    4/5

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Had external trainer come in and teach us about evaluation methods and accounting - things i have never studied so they care a lot and invest heavily.

    5/5

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • Quite superficial in that you are not necessarily working on a team doing the exact job. However you spend a lot of time on the floor and start to get used to what people do daily from observing but not necessarily doing the job.

    4/5

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • The insight really told me a lot about the firms culture. Collaboration across teams and countries and divisions seems key to GS. Also striving to be the best whilst being very supportive and collegiate which is very nice and fun.

    5/5

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • Very relevant with lots of opportunities to ask questions and meet ppeople to ask the tough questions and get honest answers. Help get an even better insight into the firm.

    5/5

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • Very well bearing in mind other places do not pay at all.

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • Definitely had plenty of opportunities as we were working on the floor daily and naturally met people.

    5/5

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • The networking opportunities were fewer than I had intially expected and were against the interns. Maybe would be better to have employee-intern networking events too with adequate refreshments.

    4/5

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • Yes, I participated in a boxing class in the firm's fitness centre - there seems to be a lot of wellness and other activities that people get involved in.

    5/5

  • 15. Would you recommend this insight to a friend?
  • Definitely as it opened my eyes as to what research analysts do and just learnt so much about finance and working life in general. Met some wonderful people and it is definitely an invaluable experience.
