Summer Vacation Scheme Review

This was a fantastic summer vacation placement and gave me a valuable insight into the work ethos and personality of the firm.

My work supervisor made a huge effort to get to know me right from the first day of my work placement and I was included in both team meetings and social activities.

Every task that I worked on, there was always a member of staff to review my work with me and discuss any questions or queries that I had. This allowed me to properly understand the work that I was given and push myself further.

My work placement was scheduled so that I always had something to keep me busy. I had an on-going project that I worked on through-out the week, so when I had a quiet moment, I always had the opportunity to continue with this research.

I had the responsibility of carrying out my own research on a particular topic and presenting it to my supervisor at the end of the week. I had to schedule this work into my other tasks, so this was excellent training for the hectic demands of a trainee.

All the tasks that I had to complete were very similar to the work a trainee will be asked to carry out. This has helped prepare me for the daily tasks of a trainee.

There was a very relaxed atmosphere in the office which I loved straight away. Everyone I met was welcoming and approachable and even people from other departments made time to say hello.

This work placement was very well organised. The tasks were well-thought out and just the right level to challenge you. The week-long research project was an excellent idea to get you talking to as many people possible and there was always someone willing to office advice or answer questions.

I was giving the opportunity to attend a training session on a new piece of legislation which will be useful information when I begin my training contract.

Having completed a successful summer work placement, I attended an assessment day and was offered a training contract for 2012.

Although I was the only person completing a work placement during that week, I attended social lunches with members of staff which I enjoyed.

Based in the centre of Manchester, the cost of living and socialising was expensive but affordable.

Definitely a city for everyone.

Depending on the week that you completed your work placement. Unfortunately there were no activities taking place the week of my placement but there were certainly opportunities for other people at other times during the summer.
